What happened....

Like a few other posters this is news to me that they match! When I went last August we got Mickey and Minnie cartoon tags. I’m interested to see what I get in December.

As others have said, there are no grounds for complaint, as they aren't even in your contract anywhere. They are a free gift. And even if they don't match the Magic Band, they are better than a TSA cavity search, which is also a free gift.

Well, I am not complaining I was just wondering if this was happening to others. But alas someone will always find something to complain about...
But... you did. My free paper luggage tags don't match my free Magic Bands. First World problems, I suppose...

........ No I was simply stating "oh this is different then what I experienced in the past"... Hm I wonder if others have gotten the same thing recently. I am not sitting here demanding that Disney fix a non-existent issue by giving me something for my hardship I have endured. I am not expecting anything from it. I was simply posting a curiosity.

No she wasn't complaing she was just wondering. No need to be hateful.
Not hateful at all. Just wondering myself if this is something to truly even be considering. Disney slipped her a few free luggage tags. Be grateful, be thankful, and be moving on.

She wasn't being ungrateful or unthankful, she was literally just wondering and wanted to know if others have received similar items. She said in her original post she's still excited and happy, she was just curious. There's no need to accuse somebody of "complaining about a free gift" when there's literally no complaining. And even if it was to complain, if you don't agree with it, don't post on it.

I'm wondering if Disney is trying to phase out the old tags and start something new? Or if they just want to clear out the inventory? I remember when the tags were first mentioned by WDW, the anticipation was massive. Then it seemed the clamor died off. For a while, there was no mention in the paperwork of the tags being included in the MagicBand boxes, and families were inadvertently tossing the tags. Why they would hid them in the folds of the cardboard, I have no idea. Since I'm DVC, luggage tags were not made available to me so I never really knew what they looked like. Then one day while I was checking into my resort, I noticed a family receiving tags so I asked the desk clerk what they were. Her eyes lit up and she asked, "Do you think you want some???" She slid open a drawer without my even responding and she pulled out hands full of loose tags. She said that families were turning them down and the tags were piling up everywhere. So I left with two full sets of tags, which I have never once used. But I've got them.

Of all the things to worry about pre-trip, free luggage tag colors seems like a pretty inane thing to complain about.

Hmm. You have to get a magicyourway package to get them, so I'm not sure they are free.

We didn’t even get luggage tags...

That’s what we had. I tore the box apart looking for them. Around the same time ours arrived, I saw on some FB pages that others didn’t get them either. It’s okay, I had some from previous trips. I honestly thought they were phasing them out.

And you looked in the sides of the box? After booking a magicyourway package through Disney itself?

Had you "ordered" a red and an orange MB?

Exactly.

If they were free, then I'd get them with a DVC booking and room-only people would get them. They are for booking packages, which is generally more expensive than the other routes.

Ooh! Found it. Went in as though to book a package and clicked on Learn More at the end of "Select the Number of Days: Add tickets to upgrade to a Magic Your Way Package and enjoy Magical Extras such as 4 rounds of miniature golf (before 4:00 PM)"

Package Inclusions
Your vacation package includes your room accommodations, theme park ticket(s), Disney keepsake luggage tags (one for each person in your travel party) and any other items you have included, such as Memory Maker, dining, vacation insurance, flight or ground transportation. n addition, you receive the following:

And it goes on to list out the minigolf vouchers, etc.

My free paper luggage tags don't match my free Magic Bands.

They aren't paper. They are keepsake, plastic, luggage tags. These aren't the magical express tags.

My last set were 4 x grey. Minnie kissing Mickey or something. I really didn't think twice about it. They tried to do something magical and they are probably running out of certain colours. It is not a big deal. American Tourister has really nice rubber disney character luggage tags that go on sale all the time.

Free gifts don't have to be gifts for everyone. They can be selective in their gift-giving. I just gave my dad a jar of jelly. I didn't give one to my brother.

Similarly, the TSA doesn't give everyone a cavity exam.

I received mine the other day and got Donald with an orange background with my orange band.
I do have a Donald with a blue background from a blue band from a while ago.
My sister got a purple band and her luggage tag was the same as it has been with Mickey and Minnie with a purple background.
I don't think there is a defect just that they are changing things up. Why? who knows but its a very small difference that doesn't bother me much but I could see how it may be a bit annoying if you were to have picked the color based on the character you were expecting.
