What happened to the "Kiss goodnight"?

Hi :flower:

I just got back from a wonderful week long vacation at WDW , and I have a question. On two occasions we stayed after "Wishes" till the official closing time, and I had yet to see "the kiss goodnight". The castle did change colors, however, I thought it was supposed to be something alot more than that, especially when I saw it on someones website where they get on the loudspeaker and wish everyone a happy trip. The parks closed at 10 Thursday, and we stayed till after 11 and nothing like that happened. I even went to City Hall and asked about the kiss goodnight, but they knew nothing about it, and they looked at me like I sprouted a second head. :confused3

So my question is, what happened to it? Is it only on certain days, or did they change the format of it since "Wishes" to it being only the castle periodically changing colors and nothing else? TIA!! :sunny:

Oh no, don't tell me they don't do it anymore, I never got to see it, and was so looking forward to it this Oct.

The schedule can be found on Steve Soares' site, and a video clip can be seen here. Though I can only imagine it's more impressive in person. For more info, do a search here on the DIS and you'll find a few threads on this subject. :flower:

ok - am i the only one crying like a baby after seeing that?!?!?!?

i gotta get back there!!!!!!

I'm wondering though if they still do the talking part of the Goodnight Kiss. Steve's site doesn't really address that issue. He could be talking about the lighting of the Castle part of the Goodnight kiss. Hmmm....

They didn't have any speaking part. The only thing that happened was the castle changing colors, and even then, it was anything like the video clip. It just changed colors and didn't have the finallly where it changes colors dramatically and then changes to a spectacular white. Like I said, when I asked a CM, they had NO idea what I was talking about, and they came up with an answer on the spot about it must have been 10 minutes after wishes. :confused3

I, too, hope Disney still gives the goodnight kiss, but I wouldn't let the fact a CM doesn't know what it is deter you. On our trip last May, I spoke to two different CMs about it, and neither knew what I was talking about. One probably thought I was a pervert...but that's another story altogether.

We stayed around at the end of an EMH, anyway, and sure nuf, got the perfect send-off after the perfect evening.

I would be real disappointed if they dropped it.

Gee, and all this time I thought the changing of the castle colors WAS the Kiss Goodnight!! I didn't realize there was more to it. On a few past trips, we did stay on Main Street long enough to hear the end-of-the-day announcement though. Something along the lines of, "Thank you for spending your day with us in the Magic Kingdom...." and it goes on about hoping you had an enjoyable day....etc. Of course, the best part is when the clean-up crew comes out and starts up all those street vaccuums at one time  . Then we know it's REALLY time to go home!! :teeth:

Does Steve Soares update that schedule on a montly basis? It's great, very useful. I won't watch the video, I want to see it for the first time in person, and if they don't do it anymore, I won't be as upset.

He updates it weekly!

His site says:

"When are the schedules updated?
I post the schedules weekly. Currently on Saturday nights for all parks. This is dictated by Disney's publishing schedule.

The schedules don't change much from week to week, so if I don't have the dates posted that you're looking for before you leave, you can still use my site for planning.

Have a great vacation! "

We were there just over a week ago, and the Kiss Goodnight was at the top of my list of things to do this trip. After sitting and waiting for about a half an hour after park closing, we asked a CM if it was happening. He said that No, they were working on a change for the Happiest Celebration... So we never got to see it either. We'll have to wait and see if it comes back after May 5th.

Great, thanks for the info. I'm going in Oct., hopefully they'll have something similar in place by then. Either way, I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Oh man, I really hope they have something by the time we go. We're going in August and we were really looking forward to the Kiss Goodnight!!

I really hope the Kiss is working well when we go. I know my girls would love it.

I am so looking forward to this - I hope they figure out what they're doing soon! Sorry to those who missed it recently :(
