What happened to our book thread?

Ok, this sounds weird but knowing that its so darn dry and hot around here I am really starting to look forward to Fall and Christmas (I blame the stores for putting up the Holiday stuff early). I am looking into some Halloween history books. :goodvibes

I just finished the most amazing book. It's one of those books where you just can't let go of it even after reading the last page. My mind is whirling, lol.

The Life of Pi by Yann Martel

I haven't seen it mentioned in this book thread yet which is a shame.

I don't even know where to begin. I came across the title of this book in an article in which the author recommended his "top 10 summer reads." His description of an Indian boy in a small lifeboat for 227 days with a Bengal tiger caught my attention.

I checked the book out from my library and read the summary. THAT'S ALL IT IS. It's a story about a boy in a boat with a tiger, period - no other plot, lol. OK, now I'm REALLY intrigued. How can an author write an entire book with no "action" and certainly no conversation, etc. I fully expected this book to be boring and dry, but my curiousity had taken over.

The author is AMAZING with his words. How someone can use only words to keep one enthralled page after page is beyond me. I literally could not put this book down!! The author writes like no other - rich and full of depth and humorous. He drew me into this book with mere words.... because seriously, not a lot happened the first half of the book. But I was captivated regardless.

I heard that they're making a movie out of this book (December possibly?) so please do yourself a favor and read the book BEFORE the movie comes out.

Although, I'm now left wondering... how can you make an entire movie out of just a boy in a boat with a tiger???? :rotfl2:

I haven't read this book yet but I know it's been around for a LONG time; hence, it probably won't show up on these threads often.

I was at the movies on Monday seeing The Campaign and I saw the preview for Life of Pi. Looked like a cool movie. Guess I'll have to go read the book now.

I read this book when it came out and loved it. Had no idea they were making a movie of it, can't wait to see it! The book as the previous poster said is not like anything I've ever read before. So good! :thumbsup2

I forgot to say I am reading Moloka'i based on the recommendations on this thread (I've been lurking for awhile!). This is such a good book, I can't put it down!

Just finished Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. Really wonderful story. I did start to skim through some of the POW mistreatment descriptions (it went on). And there was something about her writing style that irked me a little. It was "this happened then this happened then this happened." Kind of read like a very well-written essay, if that makes sense. But I chalked that up to it being a true story. I still recommend.

Has anyone read the Delirium series? I am really loving these post apocalyptic type books. I have not read this series but was looking for opinions

Have you tried The Strain? Great trilogy

Ohhh, I just put it on my wish list. This is a vampire type series, yes? The reviews sound awesome

It is, but also end of the world. It's a good read.

Whoever suggested the Debbie Macomber series, Blossom Street, thanks! I'm loving it. I'm on book #3, Susannah's Garden and I have a question. I've googled her entire series and keep getting conflicted lists of order. Is Susannah's #3 or is Back on Blossom Street the next one? I have both and have started Susannah's but want to make sure I'm going in the right order.

I am still on the Anita Blake series.

I just finished The Laughing Corpse and REALLY liked that one!

However, I just started Circus of the Damned and I am not impressed. It's a little cheesy so far, I hope it gets better!

I just finished "Our Husband" by Stephanie Bond. If you love light, fluffy books, you'll like this. I really enjoyed it. I don't know why Stephanie Bond's books are often free or very low price on Amazon Kindle. I've enjoyed what I've read.

I just got this one and a few others from her.

I'm looking forward to it!

Since last posting I have read:

Finding Emma
The Age of Miracles
Tigers in Red Weather

All 3 were okay, nothing spectacular.

I'm now reading Unbroken.

I just finished "Divergent". Very good! In a similar vein as "The Hunger Games". I've put the second book "Insurgent" on hold at the library.

I also finished the second book in the Game of Thrones series. I think it was "A Clash of Kings." Really, really enjoyed it! Can't wait to start the 3rd book!

Next up, however, is finishing "Huckleberry Finn". It's our book club selection and I'm hosting, so I need to read it. I really don't like it, though. Didn't like it when I read it in school, and I don't like it now.

I'm now reading Unbroken.
Although I'm not a non-fiction reader, I really enjoyed Unbroken. A very moving book.

Finally finished 50 Shades of Grey. Honestly, I didn't like it. I won't be reading the other two. It was poorly written, but that aside, I found it disturbing. Not even the S & M parts, because there weren't many, but I was very distributed by how controlling one character was over the other. The book just really bothered me. I had to try it though so I could form my own opinion about it instead of listening to everyone else.

I'm now reading Catching Fire......the 2nd book in the Hunger Games series. So far I'm enjoying it.

I felt the same way! I kept wanting to yell at the girl to quit being an idiot and stop putting up with that crap! Lol plus the horrible writing bugged me too! How many ways can you say oh my and bite your lip? Apparently just one! Lol
