What happened to glass thermometers?

but back to the OP. I'm pretty sure its the liability of making something out of glass that gets stuck into the mouths and other areas of children.

They could still wear out. We've got one, but it's wall mounted and basically is only connected to power now that we have VoIP. The touch tone phones might have been even tougher. If you look inside one, there's very basic circuitry and a heavy duty plastic shell.

Glass thermometers are still made, but most consumer ones are red-dyed alcohol. I do remember resetting an old mercury thermometer by shaking it.

We still have an older Honeywell mercury switch thermostat. I used play with one as a kid.

I have occasionally caught myself shaking a digital thermometer before I take the kids' temps. Old habits die hard, I guess!

Check local pharmacies or grocery stores. We bought ours (filled now with alcohol not mercury) just a couple months ago from Giant.

Growing up, whenever we could break one, everything would stop while my mom, dad or older brothers cleaned it up. We were forbidden from even helping to clean it.

In chemistry class someone broke a mercury thermometer. %he teacher pretty much did a "Don't Anyone Move" thing and ran back to the chemical storage room to get a flask used just to suck up slipped mercury.

Thats an odd listing. Its in the outdoor garden thermometer section, not health. For a second I thought it was a lab thermometer.

Oh and Walmart does not have these in inventory. The listing says "Sold & shipped by Zoro". Walmart is trying to grab some market share from Amazon.

TMI. :badpc:
