What happened to all the ""Y's'" ???

Just read an article about 2024 popular baby names and 85% of the names for girls ended with an "A" or "E". So pulled out my 1966 Joshua Tree elementary 4th grade class photo and there was Vicky Shelly Becky Kitty Nancy Betty Judy Mary Ruby and Laura Wanda and Thea....or is it amazing I remember their names??

-eigh is the new -y. And I am getting tired of seeing all the names that end in -eigh.

People are even keeping track of the worst recent names and posting them. It's called "tragedeigh" (pronounced like tragedy)
Usually they end in -leigh or -lynn added onto a name that used to be normal

I also think a lot of those are nicknames. Vicky/victoria, Shelly/michelle, kitty/katherine, Becky/rebecca. With that said I’m old and have a y name. lol.

I agree. Most of those ending with Y are nicknames, to me at least. My coworker's sister is named Betty and I figured her full name was Elizabeth, but nope, he formal name is Betty.

I'm old too....and my name ends in a Y....I went through a phase in school where I changed it to i with a heart over it

I think some parents nowadays shy away from names that they think might sound "diminutive". (I'm not saying everyone, or that I personally dislike any names, just that I've heard people question whether certain names would be taken seriously in a professional setting.)

Around here I am seeing a lot of names ending in "isha", often tagged on the end of a word not normally considered a name. Hamisha??
Also a lot of different spellings of common names.
Erica becomes Airika or Erikka.
Melissa becomes Mellisa.
