What groceries do you stock your villa with???

I think we bring pretty much the regular stuff. I am all for NOT cooking and wanted to recommend that you all try the precooked bacon and sausage that can be heated quickly in the microwave. I can scramble eggs, make toast and have breakfast done in 5 minutes using that :). Its a life saver when I am making breakfast for a group as well!

See...here's the deal with us....I have a "little princesss"...so, we usually have char. bfasts three out of the 6 days, another day we do the 10:15 AM tea with Aurora (so, no eating before that...even though the food is pretty yucky)...and, I am sleeping late at least a couple of days...so, bfasts in the room don't work for us...yet. Although, my wallet will certainly appreciate it when they do!!!

Have to say that the "livermush" ranks right up there with Richyams' pigs feet as a most unusual DVC food. ;)

We bring a lot of what was mentioned:

Potatoes (quick in microwave)
Rice packet
lemonade mix
pasta
spaghetti sauce
pre-cooked bacon

sometimes when we fly I bring a very small soft side cooler with: frozen butter, frozen meatballs, frozen cream cheese - they are still mostly frozen when we get there, and we have the spaghetti and meatballs the first night.

I buy eggs and milk at the villa store. I actually like buying groceries there becuase they give you a paper bag and it makes me feel like I live there. Pathetic I know.

You know...you "take it where you can get it"!!! That's the BEST justification I have ever heard for spending the "big bucks" on groceries on site....I'm definitely going to have to try that to see if I get the same feeling!!!

Funny, then, how people in central North Carolina love it so.

Whoa now, I live in central North Carolina and have lived here all my life and I don't love it. In fact, I don't know that I've ever even seen it before. Now, I do like liver pudding - basically sausage made with liver.

Ooohhh!!! I don't think I WANT to know....yuck...all I can think of is "mushed liver".... ...no offense, I am glad you enjoy it...feel free to eat my whole life's share of "livermush"....whatever it is!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

If they ever have Fear Factor DVC they will serve livermush! I would happily give up the million!

We take:

Frozen Corn Dogs
Chicken Nuggets
My boys love Ramen Noodles and don't like fries at all so the noodles take their place. I only use a little of the salt packet.
A ziploc gallon bag with a salt and pepper shaker, sugar dispenser, a little bottle of seasoned salt and cinnamon. This stays packed.
Microwave popcorn
Hot Cocoa
cheese slices
Deli meats
Chips-Cheese its, cookies, pringles, fruit snacks and rolls
Capri Sun
Soda
Peanut Butter Jelly
Milk
Eggs
Cereal
Foil
sandwich bags
Fruit-Apples and oranges
canned veggies
Ravioli
Bread
Squeeze Sour Cream
Tortilla's
Rotel
prepared Taco Beef- I cook at home and freeze. Travels well if driving. Wouldnt take on plane.
Hot Dogs/Buns
canned Chili

We always bring a great big bag of Twizzlers, since it is not chocolate, it won't melt in the parks. Now realize that my list caters to a now 8 and 4 yr old. But this is some stuff that we bring and we fly:

Twizzlers
cereal
pop tarts
mac n cheese (microwaveable)
Chef B'Ordee juk that my son lives off of.
popcorn
fruit snacks
granola bars
trail mix

Once there at the grocery store along the way I buy:
juice bags
favored water
soda
and other junk

and I will only buy my milk from the general store at BWV (when we are staying there) because I fear it will go bad with the heat. I now that sounds ridiculous but what can I say. I also won't buy it from the grocery store that is 20 minutes away from my house where I do all my shopping. I will stop at the grocery store that is 5 minutes from my house and buy it. I know, call me whacko....

Sorry...just a blurb from a local paper. Don't take it personally, you liver pudding lover! :teeth:

To the O.P. -- Please don't be offended by our teasing...we're just having some fun and I'm sure we've all got some favorites that would make others green around the gills. :)

I wasn't teasing at all in my initial question about "livermush." I really had never heard of it before this thread, and honestly was curious about its identity. No offense intended, though!

I was curious as well, but didn't want wanna-b-Tink to think we were being too judgemental about "livermush". Oh well, could be worse...could be Haggis! (Gosh, do I just keep digging the hole deeper, or what?)

Don't tell Beca, but since we have not been home yet, I am working from a "poptart in the hotel room" place. sssshhhh But - I have tried that pre-cooked bacon and sausage at home and its great! Saves a LOT of breakfast time and when we go down in April, we have one character breakfast and one morning set aside for Boma (upon recommendations here) so I am going to try this for the rest of the mornings :) Hubby is NOT satisfied with a bowl of cereal or a pop tart kinds of things for breakfast, so I am always looking for something more "filling" for him to keep us moving and not stopping to snack by 10 am.

I have a stupid northerner (?) question. I've heard of grits and cracklings, but what is "livermush?" Inquiring minds want to know!!

:confused3

I personally refuse to eat livermush, but my family loves it. I can't even be in the kitchen when its on the eye - grosses me out!

From the label:
Ingredients: Water, pork liver, pork jowls, corn meal, flour, salt, sage and pepper.

YUM!

Oh, and it must be Hunter's brand!

And I certainly didn't take offense from the posts - hey, I'm right there with you guys! I make "gross faces" to my husband every morning when he fixes the stuff!

I'm glad you're not offended!!

Mostly, I think knowledge is a good thing. But sometimes (as in this case), ignorance just might be bliss. Pork jowls?? :scared1:

I will stay far, far away from livermush!! Thanks for the info, though! It definitely has been an education!!

Deep-Thots and Beca: Livermush is everything you thought (and more!):

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – There are few words you can put in front of "mush" to make it sound even worse, right? Now add the word "liver." Sounds enticing, doesn't it?
When you learn what goes into livermush, it doesn't get any better, since it's a mixture of pig liver (at least 30 percent, by law), head parts, and cornmeal. Funny, then, how people in central North Carolina love it so. Funny how Shelby, N.C., mayor Ted Alexander has proclaimed it "the world's most perfect food." Funny how that same town hosts something called the Livermush Expo, which draws thousands every year.

That's funny! The first thing I thought when I read 'livermush,' was 'Richyams'. Wasn't his favorite thing pickled pigs feet or something like that? I sure do miss him and his wonderful sense of humor.

For all those Yankees reading and really want to know. Livermush-think scraple. Yes it is made out of pig liver and cornmeal, it comes in a rectangle block that one slices and fries in a frying pan. Grits really, I thought everyone now-a-days knew what grits were. Think cream of wheat only made out of cornmeal. A thin Polenta. Served with butter and salt or sugar. ::MickeyMo

In my earlier post, I said I'd heard of grits, cracklings, etc., but I'd never heard of "livermush." I know what grits and cracklings are (courtesy of having spent 4 years in VA; don't like either one of them, however!). Thanks for the heads-up on the mush, though.
