just wondering. My daughter goes to a small, private christian school so I kind of thought this was a little early. Would love to hear from parents of public schoolers, private schoolers, etc.

Thanks!!

I never had to do that.... But ya know they say kids are starting earlier and younger these days!

I think my daughter was in 2nd or 3rd grade when she did this. I was in HIgh School when I did it.

Is that like the baby flour bag? I think 6th grade might be about the right time

my dd12 is in 7th grade, public school and they did it for Living Skills-Home Ec class.

I am not sure if in 8th or 9th grade if it is the "realistic" baby for Living Skills or health.

What class is your DD doing it for?

I did this project in the sixth grade. Of course, that was 20 years ago...:)

I never got to do this, but I saw it done on TV shows and I was very jealous of everyone else who got to do it!

In high school, students enrolled in child development got to take home one of those baby dolls that cries all the time. They also started making the students who got pregnant before graduating high school take that course.

But I think that I would've loved the egg baby project in 6th grade! It would've been a lesson in responsibility more than anything.

I just found out this week about a 5th grader who is pregnant. I guess 6th grade isn't too early. :guilty:

I hate hearing stories like that, that is just way too young.

I did it in 8th grade. My dd is in 7th but hasn't had health yet so I'm not sure if she is doing it this year or next.

Heck I didn't even know what I was doing at 17 let alone in 5th grade, I wasn't even liking boys in 5th grade. I can't imagine.

How funny! I was just talking about this to DH! I did this in 5th grade. I went to Catholic school. We had to hollow out the egg and then take care of it for a week. I remember making it a little home out of a small square box and some kleenex and a ribbon to carry it with. I was trying to remember what I named it but couldn't

:sad2: That's so sad. That poor kid.

To answer the OP. I thought you were talking about the project where you have to make a container to project the egg when you drop it 40 feet, :rotfl: My oldest is in 10th and still hasn't done the baby egg project. I think it's next year.

There are no words that poor girl :(

honestly, that makes me want to cry. I can't imagine a 5th grader about to deliver a baby. i cant imagine her parents hearing that their kid that young is pregnant.

Don't know where the parents are, she lives with a relative. I found out that she mentioned several times last year that she thought she might be (school nurse met with her, relative carried her to the doctor twice). :sad2:

I did that project in 4th grade. We actually soaked the eggs in something so that they'd be harder to break, and we had to take care of them for a week. We just had to keep from breaking them, and we made them houses out of paper bags and grass

I think it's a little too young to actually appreciate the assignment. I think we have a tendency these days to try to hurry kids into things sooner as if that proves they're smarter, more capable . . . but doing things like this too young means they miss the point, and then they don't want to re-do them later because they've "been there, done that".

I read somewhere -- don't know that it's true or false -- that many girls who are pregnant SUPER YOUNG like that are very often victims of incest.
