What gift for dad having hip replacement surgery?

My dad will be having hip replacement surgery in a few weeks. I'd like to get him a gift to let him know I'm thinking of him. I don't want to send flowers. Anyone have any ideas on a gift he might find useful during his recovery?

A new remote w/batteries?

Does he have any hobbies? Or collections? If he'll have to go to therapy afterwards maybe a couple of restuarant gift cards?

A pool membership. I teach water aerobics, and after my class they have a class for people who have problems like that. Maybe you have one in your area? Good luck!

If he's into books, a couple of audio books might come in handy.

Good slip on shoes, pull on pants. After hip surgery the "reaching down to the feet" is a big NO NO!(otherwise known as hip flexion) Easy on and off clothes are great, especially in rehab!!
