That is sad if the children were ignoring your DD because of her clothing she was wearing in preschool. If I lived in a place like that, I would initiate a parents meeting to talk about that sort of behavior. That should not be tolerated and children should be taught that you do not judge people including by the clothes you wear. I would talk to the school board about it also, to see if it could be something they will work out for you.
I buy my son a mix of different types of clothes. I do buy a lot of Carters clothes from their outlet store because they are cute and good quality clothes. I have shopped there since he was a newborn. I do buy some name brand stuff, although when I do, it is always on Ebay. Other than that I shop for the basics at places like Walmart. You can get stuff like Disney character clothing there also, that looks the same as the stuff they sell at the Disney Store. Out of all options, Ebay is the best for getting a deal. You can get things that cost $10 new for like $3, in like-new condition.
Problems like this though are reasons that schools do set up school uniforms. While I was against them when I was younger, I can see good and well now why they are important. If kids are dressed the same, it takes out the problem of kids treating other kids differently because they are not dressed like they are. You can't get very creative with a pair of khakis and a white polo shirt. Kids won't know who are the "name brand kids" or who are the ones who get theirs at Walmart.
