What does your company give you for Xmas

I work for a small independent oil company and I got a $500 cash bonus. We usually go to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for lunch, but didn't this year because we waited too long to make reservations and they were all booked. So, we're going sometime in January.

My husband works for a company that owns several nursing homes and he got a $2000 check with taxes deducted. Last year they had a sit down dinner at a country club, but didn't this year.

In states without unions, it's generally a "here's what we'll give you" pay scale, and if you don't like it, you just don't have a job. Teachers in unionless areas, please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct as far as my state goes.

My boss (even though her last day was three days earlier) had a catered lunch brought in (ham/turkey, potatoes, green salad, bread, tea) for our library branch (51 employees).

They system (12 branches and 6 extensions so about 500 employees) sent us all a set that had a pen and letter opener with our logo on it.

But my system is nice, we usually get a cost of living increase every january (plus you can get a merit raise on your hire anniversary), a tshirt at our employee development day plus some other logo item (last years was a fleece car blanket this year an umbrella), a t-shirt for volunteering once a year (we have 5 charity events a year to choose from) and a yearly staff recongnition catered dinner. Plus if there are extra logo items in our MAC department they let us have those as well if we request them.

Hey and we don't have to pay library fines on our overdue books.:lmao: That's a bounus right there.

My mom is a state employee, her boss got her a Henry and Davids fruit box (grapefruit and oranges) and the bosses catered lunch. She works weekends (yes she's a workaholic) at walmart and they gave the employees (who usually only get a discount on general merchandise) 10% off food purchases in December.

I don't know if my step dad got anything from his job. He's a district supervisor for a newspaper. But he has 8 commercial drivers in his area (some do home delivery as well but mostly it's coin boxes and stores) and he got them $25 dollar gift cards at walmart (out of his own money).

I think that companies SHOULD give their employees a Christmas gift, I give my employees something because I appreciate every one of them because I would not have a successful business without them. I gave my empolyees a very nice cash bonus and a party. I think it is sad that people have to feel that just being lucky to be employed is a gift in itself. Most employees are the ones that help generate the profit for the company.

But there has to be some sort of "collective barganing". I find it hard to believe that each teacher negotiates their own contract with the principle.

Nope. There are no negotiations. There is a pay scale. It is non-negotiable. You get paid on years of service, whether you have a bachelors, masters or national boards.
You get tenure after a set amount of years depending on which county you teach in. Some counties give a small bonus for teaching in their county like $500 a year.

Just curious...I work in a hospital and they give us........nothing.
The doctors on staff chip in and give us all a $15 GC to a movie theater.
I know, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. But...22 years invested, and we get a group Xmas card signed by the VP's. Seriously.
What do you get?

It's been a tight year all around, the days of xmas bonus at a alrge corp are in the past I think. I used to get a nice bonus but now we're public so I invest in the company and see it as profit sharing.

Pretty blessed, I guess. We get a percentage of a week's pay and a half day/in-house luncheon on Christmas Eve Day. Nothing fancy, but I'm truly thankful for the gesture.

I will say I am soooooo BLESSED BLESSED BLESSED, first of all to have my amazing job!!! We get the week between Christmas and New Year's off paid and we don't have to use vacation or PTO time for it...and our head VP of our section gave us a cocktail party at Maggiano's. Secondly, I work for 5 wonderfully amazing attorneys. 2 of my attorneys each gave me $100 gift cards to Target, 1 gave me a $100 gift card to a local mall, 1 gave me some wonderful "spa products" and 1 gave me 2 AWESOME DISNEY Christmas tree ornaments (the collectable/keepsake kind)....then another attorney I am "back up" admin for gave me a cute travel mug w/ my name on it and then another attorney sent Omaha Steaks to my house!

Yes I am richly BLESSED and I thank my Lord and Savior for it everyday because I know where my BLESSINGS flow from!

It's truly a BLESSING to be employed and to feel appreciated.

I am an intervention specialist (special ed teacher). I am a county employee for the emotionally disturbed unit located in a local jr/sr high school. My county boss took offered to take all teachers and assistants to get appetizers and drinks on her at a local upscale restaurant. I had a glass of wine and pizza, mozzarella sticks and bruschetta shared between us. She does this every year. It was very nice and many off the staff did not attend.

I have 7 students and received a gift bag with a ceramic candy holder full of candy and cookies, a $25 joann fabrics gift card, a soy candle, 2 cards, a cocoa gift box and homemade fudge from my students. Then one of my assistants knitted me a beautiful blanket that I am curled up with right now.

I have 2 assistants that I spent $50 each on. One received 4 pairs of holiday socks that she wears the entire month of December, straws, and $10 GC to giant eagle and $35 to McDonald. The other assistant I bought $20 in giant eagle GC and other gift items that she loved and carried one around with her the entire school day! ha! They are amazing and I could not do my job with out them.

I also do unexpected surprise gifts through out the year also.

well, considering my boss just stuck his head in my door to say he was leaving early to "run errands" and happy holidays, I guess nada as we are closed tomorrow. This is a first for us.

There has been some teacher bashing on this board (I don't agree with any of it) but I just wanted to say that you couldn't pay me enough to do your job.

My job at the hospital: nothing from the hospital, but the physicians group gave us $25 GC to a department store. Our annual formal party was canceled as well as GC and a gift.

Other job: $100 in GC, and a wonderful note how much my efforts are appreciated.

DH: free breakfast tomorrow and half day off paid.

We are fortunate to be employed and realize it, since just 2 months ago DH was laid off from his previous job.

I work from home, and get nothing :) But thats okay its not our primary source of income.

My husband is upper management in the company he works for and he gets a nice check as a Christmas bonus... however starting last year the gov't decided bonuses are a luxury item, and they tax it at about 40% Even person in the company get a bonus and every single one gets this tax hit. For the little guy, that hurts.

His company also does a party, with raffle prizes, usually lots of small things, and 10 or so large items. We won an itouch this year, its going to one of the kids for Christmas.

I work for one of the biggest defense contractors. I get nada. When I worked for a teeny-tiny defense contractor, the owners threw a big fancy Christmas shindig. Then we got bought by the big guys, and they also have a party, but we have to buy tickets to go. Usually my manager takes our section out for lunch or something. That's it. That's okay, the only gift I need is my contract being successfully re-competed. When I want to go out and have fun, my first choice is not hanging around with a bunch of engineers, so I skip the party.

This SO sounds like me- I'd be really curious to know the name of the company (PM me if you're willing to spill).

But at least I have a job- and it helps to fund my Disney addiction, so I can't really complain.

My boss gave me $1,500. I am extremely thankful, as it has been a very challenging year for our industry. It should cover all of my Christmas expenses :)

But there has to be some sort of "collective barganing". I find it hard to believe that each teacher negotiates their own contract with the principle.

I would LOVE to negotiate a contract with my school system. I live in a non-union state. My last contract I signed was hand delivered by my principal (the only time she walked into my room). There were NO days and NO pay on the contract because the system was unsure of how many furlough days we would have. We were furloughed for three... so far. Rumors are it could go up to 10.

For everyone who thinks that teachers are well paid. I take home 2,124 after taxes and healthcare are taken out and I have been teaching for many years. Looking forward to my Master pay step soon :)
