What does your company give you for Xmas

Is it a salaried job? I am a teacher and while they *say* it is a paid holiday, it really is just built in to our pay as far as I am concerned.

Dawn

I must say I used to be an elementary teacher and had my pay work like that, but now I have paid holidays for Christmas. The rest of my holidays I have to schedule,so I am not off when the students are gone as I do not teach any longer, I work in Student Services.

The one BONUS of not teaching (besides the pay increase) is that we can take our Disney Vacations whenever we want!

Last year I worked part time at a daycare and we didnt get christmas bonuses but parents there are very generous. I ended up with $250 worth of target giftcards, $50 for starbucks and $100 in disney gift cards:thumbsup2....so really from the parents and kids i got $400 in "bonuses."
We did have a holiday party but I didnt go because it fell during finals week for school.

I know my dad gets 11 days paid vacation (Dec 23rd-Jan 4th) and I know he is getting a bonus in january but that is because of a government project that they finished last week.

I think that companies SHOULD give their employees a Christmas gift, I give my employees something because I appreciate every one of them because I would not have a successful business without them. I gave my empolyees a very nice cash bonus and a party. I think it is sad that people have to feel that just being lucky to be employed is a gift in itself. Most employees are the ones that help generate the profit for the company.

Well said. We had a very tight year, but when it comes to showing appreciation to quality employees, there is no debate. The cost of replacing and retraining people who leave feeling unappreciated is far higher. We were able to do something for everyone right down to the janitors :)

I work for an eye doc. I'm the only employee. I recieved 4 tix to a Chicago Bear game, for me and the family. and I got $200 bonus!!

We get absolutely nothing except Christmas and New Years Days off. We work a full shift on Christmas Eve and NY Eve unless we take vacation time.

My former job gave us $100 bonus most years (more than 20 years ago) but didn't pay us very well the rest of the year.

I got a box lunch from Honeybaked Ham Co., a ham/swiss sandwich, a bag of sun chips and a coke.

I work for a Fortune 50 client and I have been there almost 20 years. We got nothing. Years ago we got a small GC (maybe $25.00) and a great party. We also used to have company picnics at clubs and turkey etc at Thanksgiving. We get nothing now except for my paycheck that I work very hard for.

I know it's snowing out where I live - but this post was from Christmas time!
Let's dig up some Easter posts so at least it will be looking forward to warmer
weather.:rotfl:

i own a small business and i use my disney visa all year for expenses. at the end of the year i treat myself to a few days in disney all paid for with my points. nothing better than giving yourself a gift!

at my office we do a lunch and then each employee gets to order between $100-$200 of items from their favorite catalog/website. I also get a decent size end of the year bonus.

DH got a lunch bag from the "company" and his boss does $50 gift certificates for dinners for all the managers.

They're called gifts, not expecteds! Looks like a bunch of (not all) ungrateful employees here. You should be thankful for your job, your luncheon, your card, your little bit of money that you received as a gift.

It's nice if you do get a little something, or a little time on the company clock to go to a luncheon or a little party that someone paid for or a little gift card or anything at all, but to expect it, to take it and then to complain about it is just wrong....and not in the Christmas spirit at all!

Sorry but I don't think people are being ungrateful. I think the thread question was what did you get from your employer for the holidays? and people are answering that question honestly.

To answer the question:
To be honest perhaps its a ? of the industry your in or how old you are. I recall at the age of 18 getting a $600 holiday bonus from my employer but then again this was also almost 20 years ago, and I can say that working at a major university I didn't get a bonus or a holiday party. Its also an economy thing a lot of employers are having a hard time retaining there employees and being able to just make the salaries.

I'd suggest if your company doesn't do anything ask a supervisor if they can provide the time or the space even if its after hours for your group to host their own party. I've done this before in a smaller business environment when I was in management. I was told by the higher-ups that they would not be doing bonuses or a party and I asked if they would allow us the use of the conference space on a Friday evening for 4 hours. I provided wine & did a bunch of smaller gift cards and some lottery tickets (raffle ticket at no cost just gave everyone a chance to win) out of my pocket and asked if people wanted to do a potluck. Everyone was more then happy to pitch in with some holiday food item. Everyone had a wonderful time and they played a swap Santa game. It was probably one of the better holiday parties I've been to and it cost the employer nothing just the use of space.
