My son is turning 3 and post holiday has left me burnt out for ideas. We know what we are getting him but I have no idea when others are asking "what can we get him?"
So what are the big hits in the 3 year old households.

There are three big hits at our house right now, and here they are!
Hot Wheels! Life is not complete without them!
Transformer toys! We love Bumblebee!
Power Rangers!
Typical boy stuff! Mind you this is for a three year old and a four year old!

Mine just turned 5 (sob, they grow up so fast!) but when he was 3 he had just started to get into Geotrax, the fisher-price train system. It's all plastic, but very well-constructed and heavy duty--able to take lots of kid abuse. At 3 he needed (and wanted) help putting the tracks together. I can't speak highly enough for the extended play value of Geotrax--he still plays with them, just more independently.

Also at that age my DS liked Rescue Heroes (which are getting harder to find in the toy stores, unfortunately) and any Thomas Train (we do the take a long system, not the wooden) that he could get his hands on.

My DS is 4 now but biggest hits for him last year was THOMAS the train and Buzz and Lightning McQueen! He loves them! Now at four he really likes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles too.:thumbsup2

My son just turned 3 in January, he loves to play Candyland! He also has a lot of fun with Tinker Toys or K'nex, Playdough, paints, any type of transportation vehicles, Toy Story & Cars toys, and Crayola Color Wonder markers. He also loves to play outside, so any sports items. Here in MN, a sled, anything hockey, or outdoor shovels are lots of fun in the snow!

thomas trains, ninja turtles and spiderman figurines, build-a-bear, lego (big and little) and building blocks.

My boys favorite toys at age three were not actually toys. It was the cushions from the couch and the pillows and blankets from their rooms. They used them to make forts.

At 3yo, my DS was totally into Buzz Lightyear :thumbsup2

Shake and Go Speedway, Planet Heroes, VSmile, Diego and his plastic animals, Leapfrog fridge phonics, Thomas Duplo legos, too!

My 3 year old loves all the toys mentioned but loves educational toys at this time like leap frog (especially the leadpad books with his favorite guys)and washable finger paints, markers, stampers-- crayola has some great new art kits. Kids love music, he got a great little radio with big buttons that plays sesame street songs on tapes he can change himself and won't break and he can carry everywhere.

My DS3 Loves to play with toy power tools, hotwheels/ lightning McQueen cars, and dinosauars. He also likes his l-max leapster (though this is very new so we will see how long he loves it for).

Mine is about to turn 3 but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I second the Geotrax, my almost 5 year old niece and 9 year old son play with my 3 year old and they are too 'baby' for them.

Two other things that I highly recommend is

1. Mr. Potato Head. We bought him a big box of pieces when we were at WDW and its a great thing to take on excusions.

2. And Diego's animals. They are simply heavy duty well made plastic animals that come in packs of 3 with little descriptions of what they are. The only thing that states they are 'Diego' is the little rescue emblem on them. He plays with these animals for hours. We just got a couple more sets for his birthday.

our ds3 loves all things cars (the die-cast cars, shake and go, etc..), but i've found other big hits to be wooden thomas trains, the new candyland game with the gingerbread men you have to match the shapes on, melissa & doug wooden food you can cut and the melissa & doug floor puzzles (the pieces are pretty sturdy cardboard to withstand abuse!)... oh, and any book i can find about dinosaurs!

hope that helps! :goodvibes

My DS will be three next month. He loves all of his 5-year-old brother's toys, but some of his favourites are:

Geotrax Train (can't recommend this enough!)
Wooden Blocks
Floor puzzles
Tools - Santa brought a Black and Decker kids' tool set and he loves it
Mr Potato Head

I have three boys, DS4, DS2, and DS6 months. The big ones LOVE GeoTrax. the tracks are easy to put together if they come apart and the control is easy to use and sturdy. DS4 has been into all things Lightning McQueen since the DVD came out right after his 3rd bday.

My son turns 3 next month and he is obsessed with anything to do with cars. I don't think his life would be complete without Matchbox cars or his Disney Cars. He also got a remote control dump truck for Christmas and has put a ton of miles on it.

He is also into Dinosaurs as well.

My DS3 loves cars . . . Matchbox/Hot wheels, Disney-Pixar Cars. He also loves his GeoTrax collection, the VSmile, and his Leap Frog Click Start computer. he also has been playing Candyland, Chutes and Ladders and simple card games like Go Fish.
