What does this slang word mean?

I have been told it could mean two different things (one better than the other) and I was wondering exactly what the slang word snap means. Does anyone know?

I've always heard it used as "Oh, snap!" meaning, "Oh, shoot/darn/crap/wow/etc"

I've heard it used this way as well. Raven (on Disney's "That's So Raven") says it ALL the time. My 7 year old now says it, just like Raven.

I'm 38

We started saying oh snap since I was a preteen.

After reading the link above, I asked my son (14) what it means.

His response, “People have been saying that since the 80s, how did you miss it."

He then said it's a nice way of saying oh ****.

Oh, snap! = Perfect, just what I wanted; can be sarcastic.

I hope so too, because my 4 year old picked it up at Pre-K and says it all the time!

That seems to be how my 15yo uses it. If he says something sarcastic or a joke and "gets you" with his joke or sarcasm he says, "Snap!".
