Hello experts! :)

I keep reading about the school bread and I have seen photos, it looks yummy.

On one photo I even saw that I think the school bread has some sort of cream filling inside?

Can anyone please describe to me what the school bread tastes like? Is it like a cream puff, or a donut? Is the cream very sweet or like whipped cream or none of the above?

Just curious, can't wait to try it when I vist Disney in a few weeks.

Also, does anyone know what the Napolian (sp?) tastes like in France? I have seen great reviews about it as well. Curious as to what it tastes like, can be compared to?

Thank you,
Shellydm :)

A yeasty filled donut/pastry would best describe it. Thin caramel coating on the top dusted with coconut. It's a bit sweet with a custardy type filling. Hubby sais it tastes like butter, I think more like mild custard cream.

It taste like a little slice of heaven...hope that helps lol!

I couldn't have said it better! I ate it all in less than 5 min, I couldn't get enough, lol. I meant to go back before or after dinner on Thurs (our last night) but DD was being fussy before dinner and after they were closed.

I read on the boards that the frosting was different and was now brown/carmel (wouldn't know by taste as I've never had it before) but it was definitely white, it was the coconut that was brown, like it had been toasted. At any rate, it's delicious. The filling is more like a light custard, definitely not a plain whipped cream, it has more substance to it. The outside is like a sweet bread, is a little more dense than a filled donut. Enjoy!!

The filling is custard - like a pudding. I've read several reports saying the icing is no longer white, topped with coconut, but now caramel, topped with coconut. Can anyone confirm/deny that's recently been there? I don't like caramel, so sadly, I have to find a new Epcot sweet treat....(found it - it's raspberry shuss at the bakery in France!)

How big are they? I saw a picture posted somewhere on the boards, but it was just the school bread itself. Then I did a Google search and found a picture of the bakery counter and someone standing behind it. The school bread looked almost as large as the CM's head!

They're big but not huge! This is from May '08 - with the old white icing.

I was there last week and tried it for the first time on Tuesday the 13th(YUM!) and the frosting is definitely still white, not caramel. The coconut is a light brown though so I think they toast the coconut giving the top the appearance of light brown frosting. I'm not a caramel fan so wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much if it was topped with caramel.

I was worried about this too. I had it a month ago and it did have the brown (caramel) frosting. I honestly did not taste any difference. It was still delicious. What I did notice is, it's now quite a bit smaller!

In December and October of '08 it had caramel colored topping topping. It didn't taste like caramel though (I don't enjoy that, either).

If it is anywhere as good as the rice cream dessert that they also serve at Akershus as well as the bakery, than i can't wait

We just got home on Saturday and we *may* have purchased 6 of these over the course of our trip... :rolleyes1 We love the schoolbread!! The "donut" part of it has a hint of cinnamon to it. I didn't notice if the icing had changed, but the coconut was now toasted lightly brown. It was amazing, whatever it was!

I hope that they have not ruined school bread. A caramel coating??? The icing before was great and more like the white icing you would find on a danish pastry.
