I've never had salmon before and was wondering what it tasted like...

ALSO....

Where's the best place to get it at WDW???

The best salmon I've had at WDW is at Le Cellier or Artist Point. It has a unique taste and you either love it or hate it.

Well it tastes like Salmon, sorry but it is hard to describe food. How would you describe what chicken tastes like.:confused3

The best at Disney, is Artist Pointe, expensive but good. The least expensive that is good, is at Epcot's the Land food court.

I am aving a hard time trying to put the taste into words, yet I can tell you the best salmon we have had in Disney was at Raglan Road!

Some say it's a buttery taste...

Is that close?

I loved the salmon at Crystal Palace.......its sort of like.......well it tastes like...its not fishy.....and its great...:thumbsup2

Well, let's see. It is not a "fishy" fish, if that makes sense. Not the strongest yet not the mildest either. Ok, nevermind. I have no idea how to put the taste into words. :rotfl: Sorry!

Salmon is a very difficult taste to describe. But, we had some really delicious salmon at the Crystal Palace this past July! :)

Have you ever had swordfish? it is very similiar.
This goes to show that you will get many varying opinions. :upsidedow I do not think salmon and swordfish are similar in taste at all. Probably the best thing for you to do is to get a small piece and cook it at home. :upsidedow

I never had salmon either but if it is on any of the dinner buffets (Boma or Cape May) I am going to try it. I am also going to try it at the F&W in Canada.

I like grouper, snook, haddock etc, do you think I will like salmon???

ITA. I like swordfish but can't stand salmon. I don't find swordfish, cod, tuna etc. "fishy-tasting" but do find salmon "fishy-tasting."

So many people love salmon so I tried it over and over again - maybe I'll like it cooked this way, maybe I'll like it with this sauce, etc. After 10 years of that I finally decided that it was o.k. that I didn't like it.

My suggestion to the OP is to have lunch or dinner with someone who likes salmon and try a little bite of theirs or try a little on a buffet.

I like the idea of trying it on the buffets...

I'm also going on DCL so maybe I can try it a little there...

I love Salmon but whenever we went to Chef Mickeys, I wouldn't touch it
because I could smell it before I came to it.
So any fish that smells really fishy, use caution because it may be bad,
not keep at proper temparature.

I ate grill Salmon at Tony's Town Sqauare (Very Good and my favorate) and
at 50's Prime Time Cafe-Salmon was good but hated the Resaurant-
noisey, had to sit with people we did not know and pretend we were related,
server had heavy accent which I could not understand and she was spose to be our Cousin). Not going to do that again! :sad2:

I'm not usually too crazy about salmon but I love the salmon at Artist Point. It's cooked on a cedar plank and the flavor is wonderful!

I strongly agree with the poster who said "You love it or hate it" and the one who suggested trying it on a buffet (although buffet salmon would not be nearly as good as one cooked fresh). DCL would be a great chance to try it - your server will bring something else if you don't like it - I got my kids to try alot of things that way.

I agree- it is one of those things that has a very distinct taste and it's either a win or not. Personally I like smoked salmon (like you would find on the breakfast buffet's and such) but I am not a huge fan of many cooked salmon's. The only exceptions are the artist pointe plank salmon.

I love salmon and had it at Sunshine Seasons and 50's Prime Time but thought it was just okay. As with any fish, you just cannot overcook it otherwise it's not moist and tender as it should be. I would think that it might be better at a sit down since it's made to order and less of a chance of it sitting at a buffet getting dry. But you might get lucky and get a fresh batch at a buffet.

If you are familiar with trout-- native, not stocked, then that is what salmon tastes like. Otherwise...it tastes like salmon. I do not feel it is fishy at all, even though it is a fatty fish-- and that's a good thing for flavor. That is my personal opinion, but given that we are only miles from the ocean and eat a lot of fish, I may have eaten a broader range than some people.

I agree that buffet salmon is probably not a good way to judge whether you like it or not. It can be moist still and OK, but freshly cooked (grilled is great--I find no sauce neccesary-- just lemon juice) is by far the best. Also, wild salmon has a much stronger flavor than farmed.

If you like fish-- not just flounder or sword, you will probably enjoy freshly cooked salmon.
