What Does Marijuana Smell Like?

I know it's an odd question...

I have had some issues with my new downstairs neighbors. They are smokers and leave the door to the shared stairwell open to air out their apartment. Nobody else in our building smokes and two of us are allergic/sensitive to it. Yesterday there was a sheriff's deputy in their apartment and let's just say it did not appear to be a social visit. I would not put it past one of our other neighbors to call the police to complain about the smoke and maybe indicate they were smoking weed. I also would not put it past them to actually be smoking weed.

Tonight there is an odd smell, it's kind of a sweet smell. Maybe I'm paranoid because of the sheriff, but I'm wondering if they're smoking marijuana down there. What does it smell like? I'm assuming since I'm not in their apartment if it is indeed marijuana there is no need to worry about a contact high or about having enough in my system to fail a drug test (I am currently applying to several schools so this is a concern.) I'm sorry if these are stupid questions. Thank you for your help.

I've never smoked it, but been around it in my younger days. It's stinks really bad--to me it smells like burning trash.

It's herby smelling. Nothing like cigg smoke.

Ever smell someone burning a field or grass clippings?

I don't know exactly how to describe (been a very long time since I've been anywhere near that smell ), however, I have heard it described as a burning rope smell.

Skunky? Well... maybe in a way. But I cant make myself think it reminds me of cigarette or cigar smoke at all. LOL! It really is hard to describe a smell. I wonder if it smells the same to everyone? What does purple look like to you?

If I recall from my early college days correctly, it really depends on how its grown, different strains smell differently. A lot of what is supposed to be good doesn't have much of a smell . . . I believe low-grades tend to be sweeter. You smell that sweet weed smell all over my neighborhood, I know they can't afford the good stuff, lol.

You'd really have to inhale for it to show up on a drug test. You'll be fine.

If you can smell it from your apartment and you know it's not cigarettes, then it is probably pot. Don't worry though, you will not get a contact high and it will not make you have a positive drug screen result.

When I was 9 we went to Six Flags and my father claimed he smelled it - I never smelled anything. He said "Smell that? Like rope burning?" Who goes around sniffing burning ROPES? He was trying to teach me that it was something to be avoided at all costs, but I didn't smell anything.

The only thing I can think of that even comes close is that certain varieties of Ramen noodles smell kind of like that.

Clove cigarettes smell sweet. Pot does not smell like clove cigarettes.

To me it smells like skunk, or cat pee or even that sharp, acrid smell of a brand new bag of Starbucks ground coffee. I think it must smell different to everybody...but that's what it smells like to me I never have smoked it but in brownies, oh that was a lovely summer in 1980.
