Here's what it might smell like. Find some Queen Anne's Lace (a wildflower/weed). Burn the flowers. And there you have "it". (At least that's what I've heard.)

It is very distinct.....if you get to smell it without that wicked air freshener.....it will stay with you forever.

You will be walking down the street, in a concert, in a park...and you will smell it. You'll be amazed how much.....as i said it is a very potent smell that cannot be hidden;

Skunk? I don't really smell that in it. More herb like, smoky scent. I've always thought it smells a lot better than cigarettes, but not as good as an expensive cigar, but nothing compares to a clove. It's funny, I'm a non-smoker. Smoking never stuck with me, no matter how hard I tried in college for it to take, but I love the smell of some of it. But not cigarettes. Ugh.

Could it be incense they are burning? That smells very sweet and smokey.

"Sweet" was the first descriptive word that popped into my head - even before I read your post.

Same here. For some reason this discussion reminds me of when I was in high school and had to have a mole removed from my back. While the dermatologist was burning it off or doing whatever he was doing to it, he warned me that I'd smell a smell similar to that of burning chicken feathers. Wha--? Who sets chickens on fire? Honestly.

I worked in a movie theater for 5 years so I smelled it A LOT. Our concession stand sales were always phenomenal when we played movies that attracted a "stoner" crowd

I don't recall it smelling sweet - I agree with the burning sage description after having received an American Indian Smudge Stick a couple of years ago - but the Patchouli that pot smokers dorwn themselves in to cover the smell is definitely sweet-smelling.

If you smelled sweet smoke, my first thought would be one of those little flavored cigars that are all the rage now.

My DH traded a sack of that to some jocks who were mean to him in middle school. They told him it was the best stuff they ever had and it made them stoned out of their minds.
