what does "concierge" actually get you?

What are IGT, OGT and VGT?

Oops...never mind...figured it out. Inside, Outside and Verandah GTY?

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of already having a room booked, prices dropping, and being able to get OBC or cash for the difference, like some cruise lines. Or discounted rates as the sail date gets closer. Disney doesn't do that, unless I'm mistaken. On ANY room, not just concierge.

The Florida resident rate is the only discount you can do that with. I know you can not with the military rate. You would have to cancel and re-book.

They don't discount concierge up front from what I have seen. BUT, if it is not full, one can get an upgrade at port for a relative steal. A cat T (1 BR suite) for 5 people goes for 12-20K now depending on which cruise. If one got a VGT for less than 4K which I have seen done (fantasy eastern sailing with us aug 25) and upgraded from that rate to the T for 1900 (which a member posted earlier today) thats a steal!

Does a cat V give you access to the concierge deck/lounge?

yes it does ... it better! ... When I look at rates and look at size of room / amenities, the V looks like the 'worst deal' in concierge. It is a big jump from cat 4A which is the same size room.

Can you move a concierge booking to another date without penalty before the PIF date?

I have been able to do that myself but it has ranged from no problem at all to having to kick it up to a supervisor ... now that I am using a TA, it hasn't been a problem moving them at all.

Another thing concierge 'gets you' is ... ADDICTED to cruising concierge.

Ok good to know. My TA seems to be a miracle worker. :)

And yes, I'm already drooling and planning, lol. It's starting. ;)

Yes! You will get $ back if you see the price drop.

Yes, you would need to cancel and re-book. If the discount is released after the PIF date you would forfeit at least the deposit amount. You may still come out ahead but it is always something to consider, especially since many of these discounts come out at or after the PIF date.

Sounds nice, but I can see nothing here that would justify the extra money. Free liquor is hardly free at those prices.

You can if you remain in the same (or higher) category. You cannot, however, make this change on the website like EVERYONE ELSE can. You have to call the general reservation number, wait on hold (for me it averages 15-20 minutes before you talk to someone...listening to the recording tell you over and over how you can easily make changes on the website...:rolleyes2) and then have a reservation agent make the change for you.

Truer words were never spoken! So in 2008, we decide for the first time to try the Disney cruise line and book with them in concierge . First cruise is the one bedroom, then I thought " Ok, let's just try the Royal suites". Oh my, now that's all my husband will sail in. September 22, 2012 we will be on the Fantasy for the first time and were fortunate enough to be able to book the Walt Disney Suite. Somebody (that will be my husband) is going to have to carry me off that ship because I am not leaving! Lol :)

They do on certain cruises. They put out a code for the Halloween Galveston cruise that must not have been selling. 25% off any room. I went ahead and snagged a 1 bedroom. I was nervous there wouldn't be any upgrades at the port... Although it looks like there are still lots available.

thanks everyone for your responses.

I'd have to agree though, that I wouldn't find it worth it. I guess if money was NO consideration at all, it would be great. Just sounds like the cost for one cruise in one of these rooms would cover 2 or 3 for my family, and we'd rather have more opportunites to travel different places.

Congrats to all of you who are sailing concierge, enjoy yourselves! I'm sure we'll have a great time too!

I would definitely do it on the Dream/Fantasy for the concierge lounge/deck. It would be nice to have a place away from the crowds to hang out. I wouldn't do it on the Wonder unless it was super cheap because there is no separate area for concierge. I just read a thread about concierge tipping and that's a huge consideration. The OP said she heard that the recommended amount was $50/person/per day. That's a lot to take into consideration if I were to upgrade at the last minute at port.

I second that motion! The day we had to get off the ship both of my girls were literally in tears. It was the sadest thing I had ever seen.

Looks like you guys enjoyed the Roy as much as we did. The Roy on the Fantasy is tweaked even a little better (see my room report)

We told them in no uncertain terms that we we gonna be last off the ship and to be prepared to call security :goodvibes

Thats insane ... I did the math on the other thread ... if they got $50 per person per day then they would be earning over 800K per year in tips plus their salary ... maybe that explains how happy they seem all the time

Only for some people. My first 7 or 8 Disney cruises were all in concierge...a couple of times in the Walt, once in the Roy, twice in the Cat 2....all when they were still TWO BEDROOM SUITES.....and also in the aft H/C suites.
The rest of my 11 or 12 Disney cruises weren't concierge, and I had just as good a time.

Concierge doesn't MAKE the cruise. YOU make the cruise.

We've done concierge on other lines, and THOSE are the ones that will spoil you. Disney has a long way to go yet, to get up to par with the other cruise lines where concierge is concerned. And the others are less expensive.
But I've also cruised the other lines in less expensive, non-concierge rooms and also had a blast.
I could take it or leave it. Especially if it means more money to either cruise more often, or take trips to other places.
