what does 2003 UG say about Le Cellier

I have the 2002 UG and am wondering if they've retracted their previous comments that Le Cellier is the worst sit-down on Disney property. They did state the facelift it received made it less like a dungeon. I'm thinking of sending in-laws there but am hesitant with such a bad review from a source I've found usually good.

The UG is down on most WDW restaurants.

You will hear just as many bad as good reviews, from patrons, for EVERY WDW restaurant. All you can do is pick a place you think you'll like and give it a shot.

Personally, I agree with the UG on their restaurant opinions. Most people like WDW restaurants because they offer a wide variety of different options, plus themes that we don't experience at home. Food quality, IMO, is mediocre at best in relation to the cost.

Personally, Le Cellier served me the worst steak I have been served ANYWHERE, EVER. But, I'm sure that at some time that day someone else's opinion was that Le Cellier served them the BEST steak they've ever eaten.

Ya just step up and take your chances.

Hi Travelitis-
I've got both the 2002 and 2003 versions and they haven't changed a thing in the review of Le Cellier. . . "risen to pallatable mediocrity" and "more like a wine celler than a dungeon."

I haven't been there, but considered it for my upcoming trip and was surprised by how negative the review sounded given the great reviews here on the DIS. Hope this helps.

My entire family agreed that we had the best steak we had EVER had at LeCellier last Oct. (and previously had been very happy as well) and we are from Texas!! i.e. we know our beef!

The UG hasn't changed many of its restaurant reviews for a lot more than 2 years. Although it helped us greatly with our first few trips, now that I have the DIS it feels very out of date.

LOL.....Does that mean the rest of us don't "know our beef"?

Do we now have to take the posters home state into account when trying to judge the quality of Disney restaurants?

LOLOLOLOL...deep breath....LOLOLOL

Some alternatives for steak might be Yachtsmans or Shulas. They are both nearby.

For what it's worth, I've abandoned all guidebooks since finding DIS! I've really enjoyed so many places they've put down.

We have always agreed with the UG on their reviews, except for Le Cellier. We usually won't go to any restaurants that they don't rate at least 3 stars. We focus more on the food quality that the value. IMO, none of the restaurants are a great value, might as well have good quality. We also tend to agree that their 4 star is better than the 3, etc. The 4 restaurants we have made exceptions at are: Chef Mickey's (for both breakfast and dinner) - atmosphere good, food quality deserved 2 stars; 1900 PF and Cindy's for breakfast - we really enjoyed our meals there; Le Cellier - we thought they were waaay off on this one. I had the best filet that I have ever eaten there. By the way, we didn't think the Yachtsman Steakhouse was anywhere near Le Cellier in food quality. We ate at the Yachtsman on our last visit in Aug. and won't be going again anytime soon. When we return at Thanksgiving, we will be returning to Le Cellier for the CP and our 3rd meal there. :) Of course, this is just my opinion.

I've never been to Le Cellier, but I have seen consistently good reviews and want to try it sometime.

Despite date on the cover, UG is probably out of date (don't forget, it takes a while to compile info and publish it). My sister and I have both felt that the food at WDW has gotten much better in the last 2 years overall. While I used to feel that all the food was bad to good at best, I had several excellent meals there on my trip last year.

I went to Disneyland in California this year and was very disappointed in the UG for DL. A lot of things at DL are under two years old (Downtown Disney) and were not even mentioned, even though I had the most recent edition. Plus, the info on California Adventure was not up to date. Gave me a good idea of how out of date this publication really is. Plus, it was so much less detailed (i.e. no restaurant section, just a page with general restaurant info) compared to the UG WDW version.

I will try just about any restraurant regardless of the reviews. I've eaten at Le Celliers 3 times now. 1 lunch and 2 dinners in the past 2 years. I'm sorry to say that I have not been impressed at all with this place. I kept going back thinking, "OK, a bad night, let's try again." But the food is just OK, the service has never been very good on any of my visits. I had cold, hard bread and asked for a fresh bread and the server kept saying, yes I will bring it, and never did. This is one place were I actually did not tip! I've never not tipped any place in WDW before, so this was a first. There seem to be so many folks that love this place, but I'm not one of them. I believe you should try any restraurant you want, because only YOU can decide if it's right for you. I won't go back, sorry to say.

My FIL is very particular wanting food that doesn't have much seasoning and complaining that restaurants keep putting all these unusual dishes on their menus, and who wants that?! He refuses to believe that most people like what he terms unusual food. He orders unseasoned fries and won't touch garlic bread. Looking at the dining options I was thinking Le Cellier and Rose and Crown to be his 2 best bets in Epcot because he also will eat at only sit-down restaurants. Bland food in this case will be a good thing, but poor service won't. He's a "glass is half empty type of guy."

I bought the UG once. Generally thought it best if used like the old Sears and Roebucks catalogues used to be used...out in the outhouse.

Their dining ratings are so far off, it's not even funny. The book is so out of date it's more of a hindrance than a help.

I've eaten at Le Cellier at least fifteen times over the past half a dozen or so years. I'll take out teh times that I ate there when it was still cafeteria style, and now I've got about 12 visits in the past six years. I've never had a bad visit there. I've always had at least a good visit. More often than not it was excellent.

There are very few WDW restaurants that have been as consistant as we've found Le Cellier to be.

While it's never been my very favorite, it's always been on the shortlist, in the top five.

I've eaten there enough times to make a good, solid judgement about the place. I'll be going back.
