I loved Top Gun Maverick. I thought it was the perfect ending. Top Gun 3 is totally unnecessary.

I say this as someone who typically loves Tom Cruise movies and sees them opening weekend.

I saw the new Mission Impossible opening night and left disappointed. Probably my least favorite of the series.

Maverick was "Star Wars: A New Hope", complete with trench run. Could have been SO much better (story wise).

I would think he would be more of a mentor\teacher like he was in the last one. Maybe he'll retire in this one and pass the baton to a new young star. Launch some new careers. The last one made a lot of money and got great reviews. I'm going to assume the next one will be the same.
People like military movies. I don't think Tom would be the reason they go see it. It's the whole Top Gun idea. The combat scenes were very good in the last movie. It was also a family friendly movie that wasn't a cartoon. No violence, no nudity, very little bad language. Those are few and far between.

If they must make a trilogy, the plot will be Maverick will need to retire or die defending his country. Tom may be in his sixties but he is still capable of incredible stunts and in great shape. I agree with a pp that more Glen Powell would be nice. Lots and lots of beach football.

If they were casting Tom as a 30 year old pilot I would say yeah he's too old, and that's stupid. I'm not sure why casting him in an age appropriate roll to teach young pilots is an issue for some people. Yeah he is still in great shape and better shape than 95% of gen z males.

In the military his role would go to someone in their 40s. That is why I’m struggling with the casting, the average military retirement age is 46 for an officer, he’s 62.
