What do you use to edit photos?

I have a Canon S5. It comes with zoombrowser software, which I have used with my last camera. It really does not seem to have any editing options.

What do you use to change your photos to black & white, crop, edit, etc?

I have photoshop but can't figure out how to do anything in it. I am pretty good at picking up a program and figuring it out, but this one has me so frustrated. It is supposed to be pretty powerful, but NOT user friendly at all.

I have a sample version of Corel Photo Album, but all the features, other than to just view, have expired. I am wondering if it is worth buying.......

any tips?

I use the Corel. You may want to look into THIS product.

I found the Corel products in general easier to navigate around and use. ( IMHO )

For quick and dirty tweaking of shots to get them ready to go online I normally use Picasa. If I need to spend more time to perfect the shot or prepare it for printing I will use Photoshop CS3.

If you are looking for a powerful editing tool that won't set you back too much look at Photoshop Elements. It has a lot of the functionality of the full version at about 1/6 the price.

if you have photoshop already see if there is a trial version on the adobe site for elements 6. if so i find elements to be much more user friendly for beginners( photoshop cs3 or what ever it's called had me pulling out my hair) and if you really work at it ( the free elements trial) it might help you get adjusted to layers etc enough you could then use the photo shop you have now...imo once you get the hang of doing stuff it's easy to understand, it just seems overwhelming at first.

if not the only problem i have with pse5 is the fact my 512 mb computer and big photo catalog are constantly at war with each other..i finally moved all my canon stuff ( ie zoombrowser etc) that i don't use much to my external hard drive,..i figure i have the discs if it crashes ....and keep most of my photos that i am done working with on the external drive as well. don't know how well pse6 would be better at the large catalog issue but 5 is bad enough that i really get annoyed by it. otherwise it has most of the capability of big photoshop but sometimes you have to search around to find the tools..i got the missing manual for elements and that helped a ton.

adobe bridge for raw file conversion
adobe PS cs2 for editing
noise ninja for noise removal
panorama factory for stitching together multiple pictures

looks like everyone uses a PC but for what it is worth I use Apple's Aperture

PS CS2
PS Elements
Photostitch
