Chase Preferred Sapphire Visa - used for the recurring household bills. Points can be converted to points/miles in a variety of loyalty programs. Or we can use the points to "pay ourselves back" for any purchase made. Or we can request a check for any amount of $20+. (2,000 pts. = $20). Current plan is to use the points to pay for our rental car on our next trip.
Chase Southwest RR Visa- son #1 uses it for gas and college expenses. Points go into my RR account because it's my card and I just allow him to be an authorized user. Will probably change now that he has graduated and will begin a new job next month. He's going to want his own card. Points are used for domestic travel where SWA has non-stops from our airport. In the past, the RR points have been used for travel to Las Vegas and to Orlando.
Chase Disney Visa - daughter uses this card for gas and medical school expenses. Again, this is my card and I manage the rewards. The points have been adding up since last fall, when I last redeemed them. Plans are to redeem again in October when we go for the F&W Festival. The rewards card should help to pay for our quest to "eat and drink our way around the World" Showcase.
HHonors AmEx - rarely used but has a healthy balance from when it was used more extensively. Points go right into the Hilton Honors program where they could be exchanged into a number of loyalty programs or for a limited selection of GCs. I could even exchange them for tickets to Disney or Universal. Their real value is whenever they are used for hotel stays. Lately, we have used the points when visiting my parents or when we head up to college to pick the boys up. Will probably use the remainder to book a hotel when we go apartment hunting for son #1 this month.
Citibank Thank You Mastercard - son #2 uses it for college expenses. My card, so it's my points. Points can be used to pay myself back using the points to pay for select charges such as groceries or gas, but it's an all-or-nothing deal where I must completely pay for a charge with points. Or I can use the points to shop on
Amazon or to choose from a selection of GCs (but not Disney GCs). No current plans for using these points because the balance is so low. Previous points were used for Amazon purchases at Christmastime.
Diner's Club Mastercard - one of our business credit cards and the one used most often for business-related expenses. We rack up a lot of points every month because so much of the overhead is put on this card. We have plans to fly First Class to Europe next spring by using the points we have with this card. And we will still have a hefty amount of points left afterward. Points can also be used to "pay ourselves back" for any purchase, transferred into any of a number of loyalty programs or for a selection of GCs (none of which are Disney).
