What do you typically pay for a purebred puppy?

We paid $600 for Suzy. Champion bloodlines and all that. She is beautiful and smart as a whip. So easy to train. We got Norman at our local shelter for $90. He's a great guy. They are both great dogs!!

Suzy loves pizza! You can't get any smarter than that! :teeth:

We used to breed Goldens (up to about 6 years ago). The last time we sold some puppies our price was about $650 for a "pet" & $900-$1000 for a "show" puppy.

Your price sounds ok for a show, but kinda' pricey for a pet.

Also, make sure the bloodlines are fully "Hips, Hearts & Eyes" certified.

Just got our second Sheltie in April. We paid $550 for him. The breeder thought about keeping him to show, but he already had 3 males he was keeping to show. Our first Sheltie, from the same breeder, we paid $350 for him almost 8 years ago.

Just an FYI, there is a huge difference in Champion Bloodline and Champion Sired. Bloodline just means that somewhere in the family tree there was a champion, who knows how far back and who know what has been bred into same bloodline. Champion Sired means that the acual parents were champions. There are puppymillers and backyard breeders that can also claim champion bloodline. Just something to keep in mind when talking to breeders.

here for a pure bread chiuahah (from my friend) its 800$

I got both of my pure breds for free because their owner (my MIL) passed away suddenly.

I did find papers for the poodle including the receipt for what my MIL paid. He did have some AKC papers and the receipts stated $400. (back in 2000) for a male minituare poodle (black). I think he got a foot issue - they seemed more turned out than straight but I don't know if that is him or all poodles. His eyes don't look perfectly symmetrical either, but again, don't know if it is poodles or just him.

I know he's sweet and my son adores him.

Tucker, the second love of my life (my ds is first), was $900. Females go for $1200 here in CT.

We are extremely pleased with Tucker (mother and grandmother were show dogs and now, mama and auntie are agility dogs and grandma visits home for the blind in Hartford.

He is the sweetest dog I will ever own. His temperment is perfect and cheerful. His only goal is to make us smile. He is worth every penny.

His line comes from Scotland and his a square head breed.

If you have any questions, please pm me.

We payed $500 each for our labs. They are pet quality with certified hips/ eyes.

Many times, you can find puppies cheaper at pet stores. However, many pet stores get their puppies cheaply from puppy mills, so I refuse to give them any business.

Lilly, yellow lab, was $600 two years ago. We are getting another in Feb and she will probably be around the same. While DD is little, we will go to the breeder. I know at least 12 of her dogs and every one is wonderful. I have had rescue dogs in the past and will again when DD is bigger, but for now, we need to have a known quality and we are willing to pay for it.

We paid $800 for our Toy Fox Terrier.
I had a toy fox terrier growing up! Haven't heard of one since. :)

In 1989 I paid $300 for a dachshund pup.

I have a flat-coated retriever. E-mailed with someone at their society who said they go for $1,000. That was about 5 years ago. I got him at the pound for $35. :) LOVE him to bits!!! As a matter of fact, my homeowners' Association (emphasis on the first three letters) just sent me a notice I have to get rid of the dogs.   (Where's that flaming smilie???) Guess what...I'm putting my house on the market and MOVING instead! I can't part with the retriever. Extremely SMART dog and soooooooooooooooooooo lovable!!!!

We paid $900 for our black lab last year.
My friend paid $1100 for her poodle last year.

Pin Wizard- My brother has a flat coated retriever, it is the sweetest, most obedient dog I have ever seen! They use her at a hospital in their town in NJ to make the rounds and visit all the patients. I can't believe you got yours at the pound, what a lucky find!!

Just out of curiosity, I checked to see what a purebred Golden Retriever would cost at a supposedly reputable breeder and was told $1095. I'm just curious as to whether this is typical?

My SIL sells purebred German Shepherds about 600-800 is the going price and they sell out everytime.

Purebred dogs from reputable breeders are EXPENSIVE, regardless of whether or not they are "pet quality" but you get what you pay for. SOme breeds are hard to breed, pregnancies are hard, litters small, and deliveries are done by C Section so their costs are much higher. Plus all the genetic testing that is done, that most breeders have 1-2 litters a year, etc add to the cost.

We, being ignorant idiots at the time, bought Harley from a backyard breeder for $300. We should have known. We have paid out many times that just in vet bills to fix the things she neglected to do. I DID know to not buy from a petstore, though (however I've never even seen a petstore that sells pups)

If we get a purebred again, we'll likely rescue. Even the rescues are pricey, but not as much.

This is very interesting! The prices seem to be all over the place depending on breed and location.

These dogs were pet quality and the seller strongly urges neutering them. I'm hoping that we can do something in the fall. Last year our adoption plans fell through!

By the way, I love greyhounds but our yard seems kind of small for a dog that active. At least I assume they're active? Plus we have cats. I can see that I need to do more research.

We paid $600 for Miss Puggles last year.

I checked into rescues for Collies a few months ago and these dogs were priced all over the place too. It gets confusing. :confused3
