What do you think of this prom dress?

The red one is like 100$ more if I remember correctly. But then I would need it taken in and hemmed and when its all said and done, it would end up being at least 200$ more than the black one.
Wow, now I can see why your mom would push for the black one. Honestly $200 is a LOT of money for just a prom dress. Heck, my whole prom dress didn't cost that much (let alone having it be a price difference)

Personally I didn't care for the red one much. I even have a formal I bought that is somewhat similar, but something about that waist line seems so undefined. Mine is dk silver and shimmery but has some rouching so maybe that is the difference.

If I were you I might keep looking. I really do love the black one, but I wouldn't like it if it felt tight either.

$200 is a lot. Unless you can come up with at least half or offer to buy your accessories than I would wear the black one.

When is the prom? Do you have to make a decision this weekend or do you have more time to look?

I can see mom's issue if it is the $$$. That is a lot more money for the red one.

I understand wanting a different dress, but I bet like your some said, you look beautiful in the first dress. Like others have stated, it's elegent, sophisticated, timeless, and just plain ol' WOW! That's a beautiful dress! And you'll look fabulous with great jewelry and shoes!

You won't be looking back on your prom dress in twenty years like a lot of us do today saying, "What the heck was I thinking, was THAT really in fashion then!" ;) :lmao:

I love them both but personally I HATE wearing black dresses to black-tie events. I know they're classic, timeless and slimming but when I look at photos of me and other girls, they're ALL in black. If you wear a beautiful striking dress, you're the one that's going to stand out in the sea of LBDs. :goodvibes

I'm going to go with the black one. Prom is less than 2 weeks away, so I really am running out of time. I got these really pretty swarovski earrings on a cruise I went on like 2 months ago that I wear all the time. They are little studs but are each a circle set in a silver thing. I found these really pretty dangle earrings at Bijoux Terner for my bottom holes that I am also going to wear. They kind of match the other earrings because the stones are the same shape. I don't think I'll have a necklace unless I happen to find a really cute simple inexpensive one. I got 2 bracelets that match the earrings (both pairs) perfectly. I have my shoes that I wore for the past 2 Noel Balls. They are black and have a lot of stones on top (I'll be blingin' LOL) and are really pretty. I am actually getting off pretty cheap compared to my friends. My aunt is paying for my jewelry and my nails as my birthday present (my birthday is a week after prom). My other aunt is a hairdresser so shes doing my hair for free. My moms doing my makeup. My dress was really inexpensive (none of my other friends spent less than $300 on their dresses and mine was half that with alterations). The limo is really inexpensive. Prom tickets were only $33 a person and my afterprom ticket was free (instead of the 60$ regular price) since I did a particular fund raiser. The day after prom will be the expensive thing. A bunch of us are going out to a draft day party (for football) and then tailgating and a baseball game.

So long as you are happy with your decision..I am,:lmao: I preferred that one..

No, honestly, be happy, it is a ONCE in a lifetime thing, but it is not your wedding...:thumbsup2

I really like the dress you are going to be wearing. It looks so elagant and beautiful. I'm sure you'll look like a million bucks! Have lots of fun :)

Sounds like the jewlery will really add some pop to the black dress
With dangle earrings I doubt you would need a neckalce anyway. You don't want draw attention to too many places at once. A couple of "pop" areas works best. The bare shoulders/neckline will frame your face. That's were you want people to look, not at the neck. You want them drawn up to see you, not a neclace.

How bout ideas for hair? Should I do an up-do or leave some down? For Noel Ball the past 2 years I curled it and did half up, half down. Both times was slightly different, but thats the basic idea. I want something different than that, but it needs to be "comfortable". After all, I will be wearing it for 24+ hours (Promenade, Prom, After Prom, and the day after). Anyone have any ideas?

I absolutely LOVE the first one. You can wear the red one to prom if you want. Then you can ship me the dress your mom bought.:teeth:

I see your point about not wanting a black prom dress...so I'm changing my mind also. I do like the dress more in the colors that are in the photo anyway. I think black and white is classic..but you are probably right..it's not very prom like. My daughter's prom was two years ago..and most of the dresses were light in color. That being said..is the other dress available in any other color than red?...Just wondering. If you like the red GO WITH IT..you are obviously unhappy with the black and white..and WHY mom would buy any dress a size to small...that's beyond me. My daughter actually did loose weight before her prom(not that she had too..but you know girls..) and we wound up having to have it altered smaller. Better to do that. Go with the dress you love, you don't want to be uncomfortable in a dress that is too small and you weren't that crazy about to begin with.:thumbsup2

I would do half up/half down..That is me..You mentioned that this is a gift from your Aunt? I think..Could you possibly ask to have several trials done..I did this for my wedding. I mean, you will have a LOOONG day, and you want to feel beautiful..This is what I would do..:thumbsup2

I think half up and half down will look great, as long as people see those beautiful earrings you were talking about! Then, if you get hot the next day you always have the option of putting the rest up!

Whatever you decide, have a great time! You'll be making some wonderful memories! And ... you'll definitely be looking beautiful while you do! :cloud9:

I'm with your mom on this one. In black and white it would be classic and beautiful. Even though people say go with what you want because it is your prom, in my experience, a mother will be most honest with you, wants what is best for you, has had more experience then you, and knows what looks best on you.

What a dress looks like on someone else or on the rack really doesn't give any indication of what it looks like on you. Different dresses suit different people and without seeing you in both dresses, it is really hard to know which one is the best.

Sounds like you have resigned yourself to the black one. I hope you feel special in it, because it only happens once!

for hair ideas I would recommend checking out promspot.com I used it a few years ago and actually recently for hair styles for events.

Thanks for all your opinions! I love hearing them, so please feel free to keep posting, especially on the hair.
Thanks for the ideas on the hair so far. I will probably end up doing half up half down, I just have to figure out how to make it different than the past 2 Noel Balls. LOL. Anymore ideas are welcome!
Mock crash is this Friday and I am a little freaked out about it, but at the same time super excited, even more so than for the actual prom! It is basically a deterrant to keep people from drinking and driving the night of prom. They clear out the lower parking lot and they simulate a drunk driving crash. Students in my grade play all the charaters and fire fighters and paramedics come in and react as though it was a real crash. Other students stand and watch them cut out our classmates from the cars and watch as the paramedics treat them. Throughout the day a grim reaper (a student) goes around and "kills" other students, who are the angels. The angels represent the statistics of drunk driving (it kills X number of people out of Y number of people). These students wear white and aren't allowed to talk throughout the day. It is a HUGE thing in our school and from the time your in middle school, you look forward to the mock crash.
Anyways, I'll post pictures from prom after so that you guys can see the "finished product" LOL.

Pics, we will want pics!!!

Oh, and the Mock Crash sounds incredible. *ANYTHING* to get younger drivers to slow down and *think* is good. Gee, I wonder if the local high school does anything similar...

agnes!

personally I like the first one better....

but it's your prom, you should pick the dress.
