What do you think of the Welcome Show?

The Welcome Show is always (ok we've been twice as a family, and I've been once for a single day) our tradition for the first day of our trip. The rest of the time I'm not concerned with getting there for rope drop at any of the parks, but I really do love seeing that show on our first day!

I kind of forgotten that there was a welcome show so was kind of surprised when we arrived and it just started.

My daughter who was 25 at the time and I were headed to the park and on our way she lost one of her contact lenses. We were arriving from Universal via a shuttle so there was no chance of going back and managing to get everything done at MK as we only had this one day. We took the ferry over to MK and got our tickets and headed to the entrance. My daughter was crabby (and I can't blame her) as we walked to the entrance of the park. The show just started and I thought to myself "well this is just corny" but as we were watching it we both started smiling and started pointing out the characters. By the time the show was over we were both a little teared up but smiling and excited for our day at the park.

We had a wonderful day and luckily my daughter has pretty decent eyesight so being down one lens was not too big of a deal. (They are mainly for reading)

It's your 1st trip. Drop one of the breakfast ADRs and see the welcome show. Everyone should see it at least once. It's very charming and sweet. Also you can go right to rides. When you have breakfast ADRs unless you bolt your food down by the time you get out the park is open and lines are forming. There's something great about watching the welcome show and walking up Main Street with all the other guests. The CMs are wearing oversized Mickey gloves and waving at you as you walk up Main Street and sometimes they high five you and it's the happiest moment of the day in the most magical place on earth.

I am a Disneyholic: one of my 3 Christmas trees is all Disney, I have a Disney section in my garden, etc, etc...the Welcome Show is corny, but delightfully so. When Mayor Weaver comes out, I cry! I see it every trip. As far as breakfasts go, theyre not worth it to me...as Lizabu stated above, when you get out, the lines are forming. There may appear to be a huge crowd at the show, but its just the space. Once you go under the tunnel, you realise youre in a near empty park. I love to walk on rides. I love Main Street in the morning, the residents like Mayor Weaver, Smokey, etc. Plus, in 2012, my family was picked to be the marshals of the 3pm parade by being on Main Street early. THAT was a once in a lifetime event!!! We had a car, our own photographer, and we had a private meet and greet with the characters. I just wouldnt waste crowd-free time on breakfast. We get tons of experiences in by 12 noon.

I accidentally caught the welcome show on our trip in 2011. We usually get to the parks 10 minutes before RD and have missed it. I never thought it was important. Then one morning we got to the parks pretty early and caught the show. Now it's a must do. We saw it in August on our first day in the park and it was an AM EMH morning. My kids love it too.

I'll be honest---the whole time I'm watching it I'm thinking, "OK, OK, let's open the gates and get going." But if it's your first trip, it IS a great way to kick it off!

I agree with the pp who said to drop the 8:30 adr. #1: it's your first day in the parks, and the welcome show is something that adds that little bit of magic to it. sure, it's short, but it's cute, and it has that spirit and magic that's needed. #2: the earlier adr on the other day will get you more post breakfast, pre opening park time! #3: there's definitely no reason to eat bog breakfast more than once in the same vacation..
