What do you think of the Paradise Pier Hotel?

How often did you visit the concierge room? Were there good selections for dinner or did you have to purchase meals for dinner as well?

Personally I think the concierge food is probably at its most useful in peak season. As they serve appetisers from 5-7pm and the room closes at 8pm each night. When the park closes at 8pm you don't want to go back to the concierge room between 5 and 7 really, but when it closes at midnight it would be fine to do so. The appetisers were the same spring rolls each time we made it, plus some cheeses, crackers, and chocolate dipped strawberries. Plus glasses of wine and beer but service on these were slow we found. I think they do do different hot appetisers but the nights we went in it was spring rolls each time. You could exist on this as dinner I guess and we did one night but not every night I'd think.

We ate breakfast there each day. The breakfast food was the same each day, 4 cereals, all but one quite sugary, bagels to toast (sweet as well), good selection of fresh fruit, muffins and pastries. The pastries weren't very nice and I usually like that type of thing. I like my kids to have as sugar free a breakfast as possible even on holiday (I'm less strict later in the day, honestly ;) ) and it was impossible using the concierge room food. I think theres more sugar in everyday foods in the USA then what we have in Australia so if you live with this all the time and its what you are used to it probably won't even cross your mind let alone bother you.

Snacks to take to the park are potato chips and apples really. They have nice cookies too but they aren't very portable, unless you plan in advance and bring something to carry them in to prevent breakage from home. The bottled water was good but you could just buy a slab or two from the supermarket and BYO or get it delivered to your room. There is a fridge in your room so you could just BYO cereals and milk for breakfast in your room before you hit the parks. My kids didn't like the fruit punch they had.

The staff were helpful, it was nice to borrow DVD's to watch, and making bookings for dinners etc was easy, no long waits on hold on the phone.

Would we use it again? In peak season maybe, in off season unlikely.

Thank you for the comments Bashara!
I'll be sure to check on the concierge start and end times before making the final decision. Last time I checked it was $150 a night more for concierge. I like the convenience, but still am not completely sold on it....maybe we'll just have Von's delivery instead :)

My DH are leaving next week and staying at the PPH, I booked concierge level theme park view. We're looking forward to it. I will post a report when we return.

Does anyone know if all the standard rooms at the PPH have a fridge? We're not going to do concierge and will buy breakfast food, water, milk, etc. for our room. We are flying, so we won't have a cooler. Thanks!

We stayed there in February and loved it. We then stayed at GCH a few weeks ago and for the money, PPH is the better deal. It really is not that much further to walk to PPH then it was for us to walk to our room at GCH. The staff were great. We booked a standard room and ended up on the front side on the third floor so we could see some of the WOC. You can see the fireworks pretty good from the poor area. You go to the end of the poor area on the north end and you can see them. They pipe in the music. You cannot see Tinkerbell fly or any of that but if you are tired and do not want to fight the crowds, it is a nice view. Our family would stay again at the PPH. Oh yeah, and parking for the PPH guests is much more convenient in IMO. They have a parking garage where the GCH you have to walk across the street to park.

Yes, they do have a fridge. There is a microwave in the bar area right next to the lobby area and by the gift shop. Really easy to access compared to GCH. The only microwave that I am aware of at GCH is in the white water snack which closes at 10pm but you should have access to the one at PPH 24/7.

What is the bedding situation like at PPH in a standard room for 5 people? We're looking into a potential trip in about a year's time when our kids will be 11, 8 and almost 4. Would it be 2 king beds plus a fold out lounge or sleeping bag type thing similar to GCH?

Almost certain there's a fold-out bed or something like that in the daybed. Pretty sure it's 2 queen beds.

We just got back from a 5 night stay and LOVED it! We booked a standard room, but were upgraded to an upper level theme park view. It was so amazing. We could see WoC, but couldn't see the projections perfectly- but good enough! The room was spacious, quiet and perfect for us. It had 2 queen beds and a couch that folded in to a twin.

The only downside I could see is if you are staying on floors 6 and below. Especially in the morning, we would catch the elevator on floor 10 and there would already be people in it. Our family of 5 with the stroller would fill the elevator so every floor we stopped at below us had the doors open to a full elevator and they would have to wait for the next one. I could see that being annoying. I don't mind taking stairs- but above floor 5 or so and especially if you have a stroller- you need to use the elevator.

But other than that it was great. I would happily stay there again. All of the staff was very friendly.

Just got back from our trip, 10/14-10/18. My DH and I had a fabulous time. We loved this hotel, and would definitely consider it in the future.

We had room 1500, which is on the top floor, and was a concierge level, theme park view. We had a fabulous view of CA Adventure. Our room had a king-sized bed and a sofabed which we never used. Room was spacious, and there was a safe, and a small fridge. We picked up drinks from concierge, as well as snacks and breakfast before heading out to the park.

The bathroom was nice, although the shower did seem small, and there was a separate small room for the toilet. The water pressure seemed rather low. There was also an iron, porta crib, and coffee maker in the room if we needed it.

The only downside for us was the elevators. They were slow and super packed on weekend mornings.

I had done an in-room celebration for us, however this is a view of the room from the window:

I thought the elevators were slow too until I found the glass elevator. Seems like nobody knows it's there and I almost never had to wait. Would be nice if this was a concierge only elevator.

LOL! It seems a bunch of people had discovered it while I was there.

In May we used the glass elevator all the time and there seemed to only be a few other families using it, but I wouldn't count on that all the time.
