What do you think of "Now and Then"? Not my favorite for sure. My wife says to her it is clear they were DONE with recording together when it was recorded. Certainly get lots of play on satellite radio and all over the Internet.

Technically it's very impressive, the video is totally crazy. Because all other Beatles songs are 30-60 years old, I think it would be premature to judge this among the rest.

The song is just OK. I like the sentiment behind it but it’s a bit too melancholy for my tastes. It certainly didn’t appeal to me like Real Love did when it was released in the mid 90s. I do like the video. I’m not sure if it’s just the imagery and reflective nature or if it’s tied to my older one’s love of the Beatles and our recent trip to see Ringo.

I loved it! We watched the video and the making of today and it left me in tears. I was lucky to be a 14 year old girl when the Beatles arrived in 1964. It was so emotional seeing them together again, even though it was by technology. It’s definitely not their best song, but still good, and good quality sound. I see many pictures of Paul on Facebook and he is living his best life. Amazing that he’s still performing because he loves it. He was just touring in Australia.

I know that most of you were not brought up with the Beatles and understand why it didn't impress you. I am old and absorbed all the Beatles work from my teen years and older. (example, I was 21 when Hey Jude came out.)

Highly respected and usually rock hating classical musicians were blown away by the sound and innovative thing both vocally, musically and technologically that they produced and we enjoyed. They just released a song where all four were physically part of even though one has been dead for 43 years and the other for 23 years. They, with the help of technology were able to isolate Johns voice and create what has to be the most complex song ever released. The melody is haunting (which I would think would be expected) and the lyrics were poignant and had a strong connect even with today.

If you appreciate musical genius and innovation listen to it more than once and it is likely that you will be humming the melody to yourself before long. Even the video which is incredibly well produced encompasses the past and the present masterfully. I am so glad that I lived in the time when it would be possible to hear a basic rock and roll song in 1963 and a beautiful ballad done by the same group 60 years later. And the best part was all the diverse genre's of music that they all produced in between Now and Then.

And she was partially right! Paul, George and Ringo were together in 1995 working on the tape, John wrote the song in the late 70's, well after the Beatles broke up. Due to the finding of that tape the remaining three managed, thanks to the technology of the time were able to make "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" in and around 1995. Until recently they were unable to get a clear voice of John for Now and Then and they used that and part of the work they did on the song in 1995 and the musical genius of Paul McCartney to create this song. Nothing like it has ever been done before and since both John and George are no longer available it is figured to be the very last Beatle song that can possibly be made with all four members being a part of it,

YouTube is annoying to watch now that adblockers aren't allowed. Finally got past all of the useless ads for things I have no interest in buying to hear the song. Do websites think forcing us to watch ads will make us more likely to buy their stuff or want to look at their site more often???

Not impressed with the song. Just sounded like a song from the 1970's with an out of date melody. Melody also isn't anything memorable that you can recognize when it is played. In their time they had several popular hits with wide appeal. As with most groups, their popularity will fade over time as people's taste in music changes. Some groups are able to be successful in multiple decades while others are not.

Don't know the back-story but was this a song the Beatles were thinking about doing and then never recorded or was it just never finished/released in the past?

I won’t lie.
I’ve been igging the new music by the Stones and the Beatles for anything Bowie.
The next time a biographer mentions Lennon instead of downing a shot I’ll listen to the new song. And the next time someone rolls out that Angie inspired chestnut about Jagger and Bowie being lovers why I’ll listen to “Hackney Diamonds”.

E/O music lover 😉

The only way I can watch YouTube on my laptop is in a private window. It doesn’t seem to recognize that I have it turned off on the site. Thankfully I mostly watch on my TV

Just listened to the song and thought it’s was okay

It was ok. The lyrics were basic, the melody was very much John. It was fine. Nothing earth shattering.

Technologically, stunning that they could make it. The song itself, I like it. Melancholy for sure, as are many of their past works. The video is great.

When they first came out in 1964, I, as a 20 year old, thought their music was awful after a 10-15 year diet of doo-wop, Philly sound, California sound, good old time rock n roll. However, over the years back then, I really came to appreciate their music and creative talents, along with their individual and collective impacts that they had on so many things, and not just music. I am so happy that I lived at a time to appreciate them, and to live long enough to grow into them.

I find myself listening to the Beatles Channel on Sirius/XM multiple times a week. More than once, I have PM'd Ron, (@Micca, a big Beatles fan) about how amazingly diverse and different their music was, song to song, album to album, time period to time period. So many music artists play their songs and they kind of fall into a similar vein. The Beatles? Hardly. I recall when they would come out with a new song/album and I was like, "Ugh, what the heck is that!?!?" But over a short period of time, hearing it often, I was like, "Yeah, that's pretty neat, pretty cool. I like that, so different."

And as we have seen now 60 years since they arrived on the scene, and about 55 years after they ended as a group, their songs are like music standards. A few notes and most of us know the song, the melody and the lyrics. Their music will survive for many decades in the future.

Perspective I guess. I was brought up with the Beatles and THAT is why it didn't impress me. Worked in radio in the 1970s and used a lot of Beatles music in radio production. And my kids, who are 32 and 36 grew up with Beatles music. But as I have posted before, my kids were horrified when they discovered than NONE of my Beatles LPs were performed by the Beatles, and instrumental versions. They got me Beatles CDs for Christmas years ago so now I do.

Your kids grew up thinking those Hollyridge Strings albums were actually the Beatles???
