What do you think is the tackiest Christmas decorations?

Yes, I have to agree with Mr. Mouse, white, colored, and all other lights mish mashed together... YUCK!

Some other poster mentioned the wooden soldier/Santa near the nativity scene.. that bugs me as well...

I also have to laugh at these tiny little yards with every plastic thing imaginable on it...

We don't decorate, and one time my neighbor (a very kindly elderly man) offered to give us his plastic reindeer.

The years weren't kind to the reindeer, and well, it looked like a model in a hunting shop.... and it had a plastic light as well....

We politely declined, it was a shame that we didnt' have any extension cords long enough... ;)

I enjoy all of the Christmas decorations. I will say, though, that white lights bore me, and I'm not really into the plastic figurines. I think it's nice that people decorate -- however they decorate.

I love Christmas decorations - I esp. love the Over-The-Top yards - where people put as many lights, figures etc... as they can afford/handle - It just shouts Joy ..... The child-like spirit that I find so appealing....

I'm not a big fan of the Martha Stewart school of co-ordinated, little white lights decorating. Too restrained, too "refined"

Give me Color! Give me Riotous Displays of Holiday Spirit! Bring out the Kid in me!

We don't do outdoors decos anymore - too windy on our hilltop. Tried it once & the garlands were shredded down to bear wire, the lights were pulverized & I don't even know where the bows wound up! :p

I don't like all white lights and I truly hate icicle lights. They just look so bad during the day and absolutely nothing like icicles at night.

I never liked those plastic 3 foot high candles that light up. I really don't like the inflatables or many plastic decorations. I put white lights in the front bushes and our weeping cherry tree and the outline of our planters are in red and green lights. We had a white picket fence installed so this year we are putting greens and red bows on it with a wreath on the gate.

ummm.... sorry MrsPiglet... we always put up a combination of white lights and blue lights. Since DH is Jewish, we try to add a little Hannukah color to the yard while decorating for Xmas at the same time.

As for what I think is tacky.... I really hate the multi-color lights - especially the ones with HUGE bulbs.

Rajah, get the suction cup hooks to hang your lights on the window. They work really well.

Also, if you need more lights and have a Kmart near you, the Martha Stewart lights are on sale really cheap right now. I think they are $1.49.

I agree with Leota! :p But, I like the white light coordinated decorating too! I just love it all! :p

I love Christmas decorations!! And anything that anyone wants to put in their yards is fine with me....at least they are putting up something and I love to look!!

I have a 8' inflatable Santa and love it!! I would love to add the snowman....guess I'm tacky ;) but if it makes me smile as I drive in my driveway, I really don't care what anyone else thinks!! :teeth:
And I also have white icicle lights....they look great.
Outside lighting is DH's domain and he has gone through several types of lighting. I like them all!!

I have always wanted to have a house like Clark W. Griswold !!

Remember when he fianlly got them all to light, and it caused a brownout and totally blinded their neighbers?! I love that!!!

The tackiest by far are the metallic garland decorations that hang from the lightpoles in shopping center parking lots!

I can handle most anything really but the ones that have lights that go every which way get to me after awhile! :)

What really bothers me is people who won't take Christmas decorations down. I think it is tacky when in April Christmas lights are still around a house's eaves.

There's someone in our family who really tends to go overboard..

You see - they used to live in the city and were finally able to purchase a home in the suburbs with a HUGE yard..

Well - they were SO excited they went out and bought every kind of Christmas decoration you can think of.. Inflatibles; wooden; plastic; blinking; not blinking; waving; singing; spinning;- you get the picture.. Every inch of the yard is covered..

Every time we go there I have to fight this terrible urge to stand outside on their front lawn yelling: "Step right up.. Three balls for a dollar.. Win the little lady a teddy bear!!"

It's unbelievable - and a scene that should NOT be witnessed without the benefit of LARGE doses of Dramamine........

I'm happy they have a house now though.. Just wish someone would tell them "less is more.."

I can't believe no one has mentioned those homemade-plastic-christmas-ball-light-thingies......
You know - the ones where you take a bunch of clear plastic cups and glue or wire them together so they make the shape of a ball and then you put a wadded up string of christmas lights in the middle and hang the whole concoction on your porch or in a tree or some other festive spot.....

...or is that just a Southern Ohio decoration

I usually like most decorations.. however.. odd characters by the nativity do bother me....as do decorations left up past mid January.

I have to say the freakiest holiday setting we ever did see was a home right here in town. It was a bleak out door setting with odd characters with darkened eyes.. my dh calls it
Nightmare on Apricot Lane mixed with Heroin Addicted Snowmen.

But dang it we beat it over there every year to see if the "Creeply's" will put up the scene again:p

BTW KAOS CREATOR.. GIRL I AM STILL ROTFLOL OVER YOUR POST ABOUT YOUR CONDO NEIGHBOR'S SANTA ANTICS!!!!

Anything that looks like a "Snoopy Doghouse". You know the ones, with 20 different kinds of lights, all different plastic figurines, maybe a little garland strung around some of the wrought iron...

No they're not. Actually I thought they were a south Louisiana thing. We even call them "Cajun Chandeliers".

This thread is VERY interesting. :teeth:

And I am not ABOUT to say what I think is tacky or how we decorate, because in doing so, I will get a  from at least half of the people who have posted to this thread. ;) :)

But I DO like most Christmas (Holiday?) decorations...

:)
