What do you think about Wal Mart clothes?

I still think that a "you can't beat 'em, so might as well join 'em" attitude isn't going to help anyone but yourself.

There is NO WAY I can even fathom how me not shopping at Wal-mart will do more harm than good. I will never knowingly give them another dollar!

You have to be the change you want to see in the world... imagine what the world would be like if noone ever had the courage to speak out about what is wrong and stand up for what is right. The issue may be more complicated than originally thought, but that doesn't mean I'm going to give up and let them win. :hippie:

It isn't a beat them/join them proposition it is directing your energies in the right direction. Go ahead and boycott any store you want and even if every person in the world boycotted Walmart it still isn't going to change the corrupt governments that allow their constituents to live like they do which the government officials get rich off their suffering. Quite honestly it is like putting a bandaid on a severed limb, it isn't going to do any good .

I love the George pants. Dressy pants. quality is fine -they don't shrink (they are gaberdine type stuff) Hold upl just as well as any other modestly priced dress pant. They do not run small.

I bought my DH a George brand dress shirt. It's washable silk and looks great, just as nice as his others form Macy's, Dillard's, etc.

For play clothes for kids your kids' ages, Wal Mart is fine. For kids my kids' ages (almost 11 and almost 15), Wal Mart won't cut it. I find the quality to be mediocre, and the styles are not really what my kids wear. I find that I can shop clearance racks at the name brand mall stores and spend the same amount of money or less for my kids, and get them clothing that they want.

As for myself, I've found a couple of tops at Wal Mart for cheap, that I wear to work and don't mind ruining (I teach 2 year olds). I don't find their sizing to fit me well generally. I need a better brand to fit my body type.

I just had a cardigan on, on Monday that I bought at least 8 years ago. It looked brand new. There was no pilling and all the embroidery was still secure.

I'm a little perplexed at the people who are insisting they fade or shrink, or are of poor quality. One person even mentioned that "they stain easy". Not only have I never had any of these problems, the clothes I buy at Wal-Mart nrverr even require special laundering :confused3 Although I guess if I spilled drinks and condiments on the clothes habitually they would stain.

As for the political concerns, ever since they came to Canada they have made a point of stocking, promoting and even investing in Canadian brands. Everything from food, to clothing. From new start-up companies, to old standard brands. I see the same attitude for America on the shelves in the Buffalo Wal-Mart. I don't consider them as socially responsible as Levi's, but I'd rather shop at Wal-Mart than a lot of places.

Most of the people who pan Wal-Mart never bother to look up the codes on the clothing and shoes they do purchase. They are quite happy to buy something manufactured in a far less socially responsible manner than Wal-Mart holds their partners to. Just so long as the brand wasn't in one of those sensationalized documentaries that used Wal-MArt as an easy target.

Maybe there is a big difference between adult clothes and kids clothes but really some of the kids clothes are horrible... their carters brand line was good (i'm not sure if they still have it I just go to the carters outlet) and someone mentioned the l.e.i. jeans.. I must admit I got my dd 2 pairs and they have held up wonderful! :thumbsup2

i agree.

I've bought some decent pieces over the years for myself, but you definitely get what you pay for. Their sweaters are much thinner and don't hang as nicely as department stores. I wore holes through my khakis which are also cut kind of weird. But they are one of few places I can find pants that don't completely drag the ground.

That said, I'm not going to be shopping there much any more. I've found that their prices are not that much better than a department store (particularly when you shop sales) and the clothes are not nearly as good of a quality. I would rather spend just a little more for something that will last me a long time and will look nice than save a few bucks but get a piece of clothing that wears out quicker and does not fit as well.

For kids though, I would imagine that it's not a bad store for a growth spurt.

I don't recall having any problems with quality either and I've bought a LOT of clothes at Wal-Mart. It is the only place I buy my jeans (Lee Riders) and I love their Danskin and Hanes sweatsuits, clothes and work-out wear. The shoe department leaves something to be desired in our local store, but it isn't a supercenter. My DD(13) has a lot of clothes from there too. I don't care for the juniors spring clothes, but maybe that is the style this year:confused3

100% hit or miss I find.

Some of their brands run small.....to the point I'll have to buy up to 2 sizes larger. Their knit tops can be tricky....some hold up really great, some shrink short and wide...not nice at all.

I have bought some cute stuff there. I always try it on because size can be "iffy". I also don't expect it to last forever, buit for a season or two, it's OK.

I'm a Marshall's, TJ Maxx and Outlet Mall Shopper. I find shirts and pants are actually cheaper at Marshall's and TJ Maxx then the department stores. Some great buys on the clearance racks.
