What do you think about Wal Mart clothes?

Now, if I were shopping for children....
I would definitely[/B buy walmart! why pay mucho bucks for jeans, tops, etc. they will outgrow in 6 months?:rotfl:

The White Stag brand has a line of ladies t-shirts that I LOVE. I have had some for YEARS and they still look great. I haven't had as much luck with other lines of theirs but their White Stag (which used to be sold at high end department stores back in the 'day') is pretty good for the price.

ITA! these people who say the clothes don't last... what ARE they doing to them? I have a quite a few white stag tops from quite a few years ago! no, they aren't faded.

I tend to "outgrow" my clothes before they fade! (oops! intending on working on that... really, hubby, I am!:rotfl2:)

I love the George pants. Dressy pants. quality is fine -they don't shrink (they are gaberdine type stuff) Hold upl just as well as any other modestly priced dress pant. They do not run small.

I buy DD13's LEI jeans from Wal-Mart. It is the one line of jeans that fit her like a glove. They were made for her body. She has worn them for 2 winters. They haven't worn out but they will be too short on her next year. I'll throw them in the Goodwill bag.

I don't buy much from there because I don't like a lot of their styles but what I do have lasts usually as long as my interest lasts..

I agree. I don't go to Wal-Mart all that often. But I have bought clothing there, got compliments on the items too! Ladies would ask where I got whatever I was wearing and was surprised when I said, Wal-Mart! I have gone there specifically for kids clothes though. The clothes last as long as any other place I've bought from. :confused3 I have a few Disney sweat shirts that I've had for at least 9 years. Still good! People still ask me where I got them!

While I was on our last trip to WDW, and a lady stopped me and asked where I got my Mickey sweatshirt. It would have probably cost quadruple the price at WDW! No doubt.

I have had great luck with stuff for the kids there. They outgrow their stuff so fast, I can't see spending alot.

I have also had great luck finding Disney stuff there for all of us, and it holds up well.

DD likes the Miley Cyrus stuff. Honestly, everything from that line I've bought still looks great. I paid a hell of a lot more for an Abby Dawn (Avril Lavigne's line at Kohl's) hoodie and the pocket ripped the first time I washed it.

Bought my son a pair of Walmart gloves, they're still kicking. Bought my son a pair of Gymboree knit skull gloves they had around Christmas and he wore them once and they unraveled to nothing. Just depends.

I think their adult clothing really sucks. Fading, shrinking to nothing, breaking zippers.

I live in a small town and it's just about the only place to shop.:sad2:I barely buy their clothes because they stain easy, wash poorly and shrink.

We don't have a Walmart nearby so when we are travelling and see one we stop for the novelty. I've purchased a few things there and agree that they are one-season purchases. I have only one child still at home and no nieces or nephews to hand-down so if DD likes something there and the price is right I buy it. If it lasts for five wears I figure I've got my $$ worth:laughing: If it lasts longer, I've found myself a bargain.

For items I hope to get a few seasons out of (winter coats, pajamas, jeans) I prefer to buy LLBean or Lands End at end-of-season clearance sales. Although DD's jeans get too short over a school year, we then cut them into clam diggers for spring/summer. I am so fortunate that this style is in again this year, it has really saved me tons of $$ the last couple of springs!

We buy a lot of the boys' summer clothes at Wal-Mart and have never had any problems. We buy the cheapest shorts and t-shirts and they have lasted a long time. We have several faded glory brand elastic waist shorts and muscle shirts that we bought 4 years ago and they still are in great shape. These clothes have been through both boys and could go another year, but I think both boys have outgrown them.

I buy things for DS7 there. Mostly socks, underwear, pj's and shorts to play in. I also agree about the White Stag shirts!

You can get some great buys on clothes at Sam's Club!

I haven't bought any clothes for me there, just have never found anything I really like. However, I have gotten tons of jeans and T-Shirts for DS6 there and they last really well. Well, enough that after he outgrows them I give them to my gf for her DS4. I have also gotten DS sneakers there that have lasted longer than any I have gotten "name" brand!

I get his school uniforms there too (navy pants and white polo shirts). I lie the pants because they have the double knee so if he falls in the schoolyrad I'm not out a pair of pants on the first day of school!:thumbsup2

Walmart is fine, if the price is right. They have a few lines that I do like, don't fade, and are comfortable. As far as my kids clothes are concerned. Not all of it is a great deal. I bought my son a long sleeved shirt with a Dalmation on it from Dillards on sale for $2.50. A month later, there is the same shirt at Walmart. Price was $5.00. Neither price would have been awful (It was 7.99 Reg at Dillards) but at that point I knew to keep shopping the sales, and not automatically think Walmart was a great deal.

I find Walmart clothing to be really hit or miss. I have a cardigan from Walmart that is still going strong 3-4 years later, despite being worn several days a week during the winter. On the other hand, I used to buy cheap t-shirts and long sleeve shirts for myself from Walmart, but found that they wore out within a half dozen wears/washes. The hems on the sleeves and bottom would start unravelling and the fabric would get really pilled and faded very quickly. I now go to Old Navy - if you shop the sales, the shirts are similar price, and they last a lot longer. Other than that, nothing that Walmart sells for women has ever appealed to me. I'd rather hit the thrift store and buy gently-used good quality name (or designer) brands, than new low-quality clothing.

I dont usually buy clothes for the kids there unless they are on major clearance and usually then only play clothes. I did get my ds4 some sleep pants yesterday a 2 pack for 5$ :thumbsup2 I never ever buy girl clothes there.. they are all made so small :confused3 and then shrink even more after washing. I get better deals at the outlets with coupons :lovestruc

I don't want to offend anyone... but I feel I must say a little something and I mean it in the nicest possible way. I have always thought that knowledge is power and feel like I must pass it on. Even if you don't believe me, or care, all I ask is that you look for the truth and maybe think about your purchases a little more carefully.... and realize that every choice you make has an impact on other people in this world.

I boycott wal-mart and refuse to support them (for MANY reasons), so no we don't buy clothes from them :) Also, I have come to realize, and wish that other people would realize, that cheap is not a good thing. The ONLY way any place, especially wal-mart, is able to offer us such low prices is b/c they cut corners and offer inferior product. There is a HUGE price tag for that cheap product, it's just that we aren't paying for it. There are millions of people who ARE paying for it though and their lives are miserable. Just b/c they live in India, Indonesia and China doesn't make them any less a person, or worth caring about. Why do we feel ENTITLED to cheap food and clothing? Why do we feel that other people should suffer (and they suffer more than any of us ever will) in order to keep us in comfortable?

If you haven't seen/heard of the BBC shows called "Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts" or "Blood, Sweat and Takeaways", I beg you to Google/watch them to see how buying cheap products effects the lives of so many people. They are powerless to change their lot in life, for the most part, b/c we (as consumers) hold that power.

I am just starting to look for more "fair" options, so, sorry I don't have any alternatives yet, but I encourage everyone to look for better options!

Again, sorry to offend, if I have. I never want to approach this topic with others at the risk of sounding "high and mighty"; but I feel like, if I don't shed light on it, then I am just as much to blame, KWIM? Even if you don't think so, we CAN change the world; it all starts with knowledge :)

So where do you shop that you can avoid this? Walmart doesn't cause these problems in Thailand, etc.. their government does. If Walmart, Target, KMart and all the other stores were to pull out of those countries, it would be even worse for the people there.

Like I said, I am just starting to research this and haven't bought any clothes since learning about all this nasty business :) So, I don't know yet, but everyone can research it :)

About the stores pulling out... I think that is one of those vague, general statements that are fed to consumers to push the issue under the rug and get them spending money again. Theoretically speaking, I don't think those companies would pull out of the country all togther. They would just have to change their practices to meet the demands of consumers, like other ethical companies have done. Currently, workers in South-east Asia make like 50 cents and hour (depending on where they work)... so, if a company became more ethical and paid them say, $2.50 an hour, it would greatly improve the lives of the workers and still be cheaper than paying an American minimum wage. Although, many would still prefer that some of those jobs come back to the states!

Now, the company would probably pass those prices on to the consumer, but, like I said, we aren't ENTITLED to cheap clothing... especially when it comes at the expense of others. Maybe it would encourage Americans to not waste so much and/or buy clothing from thrift shops more often, which would end up with less trash in the landfills! :hippie:

No, it isn't a vague comment passed on to consumers, it is after my OWN research in college. I wrote a major paper on third world countries and the effect their own governments had on keeping them in the state in which they were living. Now, that's not to say that we can't be less wasteful but there is much, much more to this issue then buying some clothing at Walmart and you and the rest of the US not shopping at Walmart will harm our country much more then it will Thailand along and paying an extra dollar or two for a shirt at Walmart isn't going to get passed on to the plant workers, it will go to the government coffers.
