We've been planning to go to Florida Dec 4 - Dec 11 of this year, but now I'm thinking about switching it to Dec 18 - Dec 25. Christmas this year is on a Saturday, so the days at Universal would be Mon - Sat (Dec 20 - Dec 25). It would work well since then the kids would miss less school (PLEASE let's not start a debate about that) and it would feel even more like a Christmas trip. (Last year, we went to WDW in early Dec as a family Christmas trip/gift, but then the kids ended up expecting a regular full Christmas anyway. Go figure those kids. . . :))

Low crowds is high priority for us though, and I'm not sure how Dec 18 - Dec 25 would be. I'm thinking it MIGHT be okay since schools will be open most of that week with Christmas being on a Saturday.

What do y'all think?

Oh, we'll be staying on-site when at Universal. It would be Dec 18 - Dec 20 at SeaWorld and Dec 20 - Dec 25 at Universal.

Historically that week hasn't been bad...it's not until 12/26 that the crowds are insane. The wild card this year is Harry Potter and what type of crowds will we see. I think staying onsite is definitely the way to go...we just don't know how the crowds will be this year.

I think you will have a blast that you will find SW pretty manageable, but with WWOHP Universal will have big crowds...are you staying on site at US? That will make a big difference. It will be more crowded that the earlier week you list, but yeah, missing a week of school can put a lot of pressure on your kids, not sure of their ages but if finals are involved... Enjoy Grinchmas! (just read your kids ages, you're still safe form finals...yay!)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We've decided to take the risk and go later in the month. I called and changed our dates today. The high, non-discounted room rates start with the night of Dec 24, so we shifted our whole trip from Sat-to-Sat to Fri-to-Fri and will go home on Christmas Eve night. For our new Uni nights, the rates are exactly the same as they were for our old nights. The one really good thing, though, is that one of the rooms reserved now is a king room, whereas for the earlier dates no king rooms were available.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be too crazy crowded. :)
