What do you purchase at Dollar Stores?

This summer I entered a Pinterest contest and won $100 to Dollar Tree. :cool1: I buy plastic containers for my classroom. I also bought containers, crafts, and decorations (tablecloths, plates, napkins) to make up "Disney Movie Night" boxes for DD. Now when we want to have a special night, she can just grab a box and decorate.

I also buy Disney stickers and glow sticks for DD to use and hand out to other kids while we are on Disney vacations.

I buy lots of stuff for my classroom too! I just bought 20 pairs of earbuds for the kids to use for the Ipads.

wrapping paper. sometimes napkins, but fwiw, a lot of items are smaller, lousy versions and are not even worth the dollar!

:rotfl:

When I see someone ask about "dollar" stores I think of Dollar Tree where everything is $1.00, not Family Dollar and Dollar General, which have all prices. That being said, I find that our Dollar Tree often has name brand products. I have no problem with buying them.

In reference to the poster who mentioned the Dollar store toothpaste. It's an off brand and you do need to be careful about buying that. It's made in china and may contain unknown/hazardous ingreditents. I would never worry about a brand like Colgate, the issues don't apply with them. If they ever did you can bet we'd hear about it.

Name brand companies often make products for dollar stores. They are usually packaged differently and may be smaller in size than the products you get at big box stores, but they are exactly the name in quality.

Mrs Freshley's is not a dollar store brand. It's a national brand that is sold in big box stores that just happens to be found in some dollar stores too.

Like any other products, it's a matter of figuring out which products are good and which are not. I don't like Dollar Trees garbage bags, too thin and not well made. But I love their foil pans, tissue paper and plastic containers. I often find name brand foods both in the frozen section and shelf stable products.
Good to know. Our daughter liked that brand better than the Good Value ones from Walmart.

Always hit the Dollor Tree before my Disney visits for above-mentioned items (don't forget the over-the-door shoe organizer for the bathroom). They used to have a great selection of Disney items that I would pick-up for Tinkerbelle gifts, but have not seen any of that recently.

OP here. Thank you so much for all the replies. I will definitely check out the foil pans, cards, stuff for valentine treats/cards for school. When do they have ponchos? All the time or just in the spring?

I've seen them all year but i live in FL so it rains year round, lol.

I go to Dollar Tree for wrapping paper/gift bags and sponges. There are 6 sponges in the pkg (used to be 8 :() so when they're done, you just chuck them. Expensive sponges make me feel guilty when I do that. :rotfl: Stuff for the kitchen (foil pans, containers). I found Disney Princess socks for dgd. Reading glasses. Showercaps. Baby powder (for me). And the frozen meatballs in the red bag (dmom loves them as well). Bread.

Coloring books!
Puzzles!
Shampoo and soap for the kiddos
Seasonal decor items- I love crepe paper pumpkins for the fall, Shamrocks for the spring, and for a buck i can pick some up!

It did ... and to Colgate specifically. From the link I posted on the first page:

I remember that stuff. A very bad counterfeit that clearly said Made in China on it. The only thing about the package that was even remotely like the real Colgate product was the colors and the name Colgate.

I went to Dollar Tree today and got :

6pk of magnetic clips (gonna use them as chip clips)
2 black sharpies (not the regular type, the wide tip ones)
48ct of 30z paper cups (we use these at night when we take our meds)
Lady Speed Stick for upcoming vacation (me)
Speed Stick for upcoming vacation (DH - DS has some Axe deo he will use)
2 sets of batteries (one set for our bathroom scale)
Travel pack of 24 individual sealed antibacterial wipes (for vacation)
3pk of toothbrushes with head covers (for vacation)
Advil PM (Dollar Tree brand)
14" x 8" plastic container with lid (gonna put toiletries in this for vacation to keep organized and use it if we bring home goodies to eat)
2- white posterboard, 1- neon yellow posterboard (DS is going to make signs for girls basketball at his school)

I love Dollar Tree. We get a lot of stuff there. Coloring books for DD who does a ton of coloring! Brillo, which I can't find anywhere else, greeting cards, stickers, posterboard, mylar balloons for birthdays, and a lot else!!! :goodvibes

Our Dollar Tree carries the Sunday Paper for $1 so I get it there for the coupons. I also get my travel coffee cups there. I get glow sticks for Disney and last time I was there I saw some Princess and Fairy Sandwich baggies.

I end up at Dollar Tree all the time between personal shopping, PTO and Girl Scouts.

Here are my common items:

LA's Totally Awesome all purpose cleaner- gets 4.5 stars on Amazon. LA has some other stuff at Dollar Tree I want to try.

This stuff is great! It will take even old grease stains out of clothing. My husband occassionally gets grease stains on his khakis at work and it removes them with no problem. I let it sit for 5 minutes or so beofre washing. I don't dilute it.

We also buy:
  • plastic bins
  • over the door shoe holders (vacation)
  • foil pans
  • deodorant
  • shampoo
  • hair products (brands vary widely)
  • seasonal prize items/decor for school
  • scrapbooking paper
  • books

Picture frames for decorating the kids hang out area, Breck soap/shampoo/detangler (because with 3 kids, that stuff goes quite fast), bleach, extra school supplies and plenty of what was previously mentioned :)

My fave cheapy store is Five Below but the Dollar Tree is pretty good for the basics. I don't buy food there though unless it's the branded theater candy for movie night at home.

A lot of this is repeating what you've already seen, but:
greeting cards, wrapping paper, gift bags, tissue paper, thank you notes, candles (not jar ones), envelopes, hand soap, placemats, contact paper, shelf liner, headbands (fabric kind), crayons, coloring books, superglue, puzzles, baby wash cloths, stickers, tape, pens, garbage cans for the kids' rooms, pop up hampers for the kids (and disney trips), sandwich baggies, teacher supplies, stocking stuffers, classroom treat bag fillers.

We also get stuff for our disney trip - ponchos, sunglasses, extra toothbrushes, toothbrush holders, travel toys (novel enough to keep them amused on the plane, but no big deal if they get lost), mini keychain flashlights, sample size toiletries, glow necklaces, hand wipes, over the door organizer, foldable bin for phone or keys.

Dollar Tree:
Shampoo
aluminum baking trays
Large mailing envelopes (usually a 2 or 3 pack)
note pads
wrapping items~balloons (when ours actually has helium)
ponchos
glow sticks
spare readers..I simply cannot have enough of these
and I have found socks , 100% cotton...that I love, but that is hit or miss

I lost my trifocal glasses and they are seriously expensive, so I went to the dollar store the other day and got 2 pairs of reading glasses for $2. They'll hold me over until I can save enough for another pair of trifocals.

yep...that's what I posted too, I cannot have enough spare pairs, lol. Thanks to Dollar Tree I can have a pair upsatirs, downstairs, in my purse and in the car. I even have a pair in my coupon book!

The only thing we really ever buy at the Dollar Tree is plastic table cloths and balloons.

You can't beat the decorative balloons for $1
