what do you pull your travel trailer with? are you happy with it?

We are looking into replacing my DH's truck and we've been back and forth with the Ford / Dodge and GMC. He knows he wants a diesel engine / club cab / long bed duelly but its the make/model that is giving us grief

I was really wanting a H2 but the towing ratio isn't very good (only 8,000 lbs) so thats out

So, what do you drive and would you replace it with the same or not?

We have a GMC Crew Cab 6.6 Duramax diesel with an Allison transmission and we are very happy with it. Oil changes and maintenance are easy with this combo. I very much liked the King Ranch ford, but with 0 percent financing on the the Gmc it was had to pass up and we are happy with it after 2 1/2 years.

Its a Jayco Kiwi 30T and if I am reading the paperwork correctly the dry weight is 4725 lbs and the gross weight is 6800 lbs. We bought it because it is so light and we are able to pull it with my DH's dakota quad cab. The trip to FW was too long and the truck was making some weird sounds so we figured we'd better start looking for something bigger.

becky1960, that combo you mentioned sounds like what Chad is looking at. At first he was really interested in the Ford King Rancher but now the GMC has his eye.

I use a 2000 F350 Crewcab diesel 6spd to pull approximately 12000lbs of fifth wheel. I really like the setup and it performs very well. I've got 4.10 gears in the rear-end so my mileage is quite as good as somebody with 3.73s, but I wouldn't give up the extra pulling power for the mileage. This truck was my daily driver until last summer when I bought a used econo car for the work commute. Now it just sits a prays for the next time it gets to pull the trailer.

I have a 02 GMC 2500HD, it has the 8.1 gasser and the allison transmission, its a great tow vehicle. Diesel would be nice but i could not justify the expense at the time. the allison transmission is hard to beat.

We are now pulling our 26ft. Gulfstream with a 2003 GMC Yukon XL...we were pulling with a 1997 Ford Expedition and it seemed to be putting a strain on the SUV, not to mention we are almost at 200K miles on the Ford, so I knew it was time for something else...The GMC has 50K miles on it now!!!

All our relatives that have heavy haulers use the GM 6.6 D/A combo and just love them especially with teh new 5 year 160K powertrain warranty much better than any other manufacturer. They love their 3500's and wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have an 04 Chevrolet CC with the Duramax as well. 130k miles and can't complain too much. This is actually my 4th one. I had an 01,02,03 and then bought an 04 and just liked it too much to trade this one. The reason I traded so much is because I just get truck crazy lol. I pull a 2007 Hobbi Toy Hauler easily but I'm fixing to get my 08 Cougar 31' Toy Hauler 5'er. I can't wait lol. I hope it pulls as good as my pull behind.

We pull a 29ft Dutchmen Ultralite Travel Trailer with a 97 Ram 1500 Quad Cab Long Bed. It's a 5.9 gasser and mileage is awful but it pulls like an animal.

My folks love their 2006 F350, club cab, dually, long bed, diesel. In fact, just today, I was shopping for one for myself! They have a 39 ft 5er.

I have an '05 F-250 4X4 with the 6.0L diesel and Torqueshift automatic. It's a crew cab long-bed. We pull a 30' Puma TT weighing around 8,000 lbs. loaded.

I use this truck also in my landscape business and it's been great so far. It only has around 29,000 miles but it has been flawless and pulls extremely well. It's 639 miles from my driveway to the Fort gate going down I-95 and I-4. We run 70-75 mph the whole way (where legal ) and it didn't even breath hard. Would buy another tomorrow if anything happened to it.

Are you buying new? If so, everything is changing because of the new emission requirements. Dodge and Ford are using new larger engines and Chevy has beefed up the Duramax. To tell you the truth, all the diesels are great these days. Go drive them and look at the other stuff that makes up the truck. You won't go wrong with any of these engines, so get the "truck" you like most.

My dh loves his truck! It's a Ford F-350 diesel, dually, long bed. He has one of those big silver fuel tanks in the bed of the truck (Transferflow) that automatically pumps diesel into the main tank so no fuel stops for us. We are about 620 miles from home.

Oh, we pull a 2006 40' 5th wheel toy hauler.

I pull a 29' fifth wheel with a 2005 Dodge 3500 with the 5.9L cummins diesel. I dont even know it's back there. I have no been disappointed yet

On the opposite end of the spectrum

I have an 02 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with a 4.0 6 cylinder with towing package. I pull a 5x8 utility trailer and will eventually be pulling a 5x10 Tear Drop 1200 lbs dry weight, probably 1600 lbs loaded.

Even pulling the utility trailer I get 20 MPG on the highway.

We pull our 2002 Sunnybrook 3008 with a 2002 Ford Excurstion V10. DH loves the tow he gets with is Hensley! Excursion is tough on gas but is very comfortble and has lots of room. Good in the Pa winter too!

Ah, you'll have one happy dh when you get the new BIG truck! We pull our 07 Flagstaff 831qbss with his 03 GMC 2500HD 8.1 long bed ext cab. The allison transmision is awesome....its amazing when your pulling in hills or mountains!

..........lol yeah, we know when we pull with the Dakota Quad cab we get about 6 miles to the gallon. Cost us about $600 from N'awlins to Mickey...

its an 2005 Sierra 3500 SLE Regency w/diesel engine and a whole lotta other goodies.
wondering if anyone can answer this for me....
since we will be picking it up in Texas but registering it in LA we pay taxes here, right?
