What do you primarily use your points for?

As I appear to be coming down with a serious case of "addonitis", I was wondering as to the PRIMARY attraction/reason that other members use their points for.

I mean do you mainly use them for Disney resorts, or do you actually use them for non resort uses...ie cruises, Adventures by Dis, non Dis hotels, RCI exchanges etc etc???

For what it's worth we only have 100 points (but will add another 200 in the next 12 months), and we use them exclusively at WDW for our "big" trip every 2-3 years.

And do DVC actually do any research on this, and does anyone know where the info might be accessible if it is??

Right after the DCL was added, we took a four night cruise using points. Points for a cruise were way less then. Since that time, only DVC stays.

Disney studies everything about everything, but I doubt they release the information.

We have a small contract 100 points so we have done 4 nights at KV and then 2 nights at GCV and have cash for HH for August ! Waiting on DCL for the rest.

We use all of our points for DVC stays at our home resort. We could use more points, and we would use those only for DVC stays, too. It's addictive, our home away from home .

We tried to purchase enough points (250) for a couple of trips a year in studios with our original purchase but I still have to fight off addonitis sometimes. We try to plan out getting the most nights per year on them. As new owners a few years ago we used them for a 4 night cruise once but then after we figured out how much we overpaid for the cruise compared to using cash we probably won't ever do that again. We WERE planning to use them for a few nights at Disneyland Paris this summer until those point charts came out. That was just absurd. We ended up finding someone to transfer points to and are booking a package on cash from what we got for the transfer. We have decided for the most part using points outside of WDW or DL is not a smart way to use them. There may be a day we use them for an RCI trade if we can find an acceptable place to use them and if we can plan that far ahead (RCI doesn't offer the best in resort choices). My opinion of ABD is that it's very over priced and we don't own enough points to even consider that option. In reality they go a LOT further when used at DVC resorts.

We mostly use them for DVC resort stays also. We have only exchanged out once, and that was to Hawaii. We are planning to do that again in 2013 if the new hotel\timeshare tax in Hawaii doesn't kill it for us.

We've taken 2 cruises with points. Mostly we've added on because we became grandparents! However, I expect to spend next January at WDW/VB because this winter has convinced me that Florida is where I should be then. DH and the rest will be with me through Marathon weekend. We may need more points, but I'm trying to hold the line where it is now.

DVC resorts only. We don't have enough points (220) to even THINK about using them for something else. As it is, we have to cut back from going twice a year to maybe once a year, so that every other year we can take the whole family.

Like you, we purchased 100 points (started out with 200 since they gave us 2009 points). We purchased last summer and have used them for three DVC stays.
We determined that 100 points would get us one trip in a studio. We like to go more often and are so spoiled now that we only want to stay DVC/deluxe.
We are in the process of purchasing 150 more, to use for our extra trips during the year, or use them to get a 1 bedroom rather than a studio.

DVC resorts almost exclusively. Have used points for Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian Hotel, and Paradise Pier Hotel, all before VGC opened. And used points once at Disneyland Paris Newport Bay Hotel, but that was some time ago when it was a better value and included park tickets.

With 250 points, I only use them at DVC resorts. We've borrowed half of 2012 SSR points to book the Treehouses in November for an extended family trip.

When we've cruised on DCL I've paid cash. I plan to do that for a cruise on the Dream, and then the Fantasy.

We use our exclusively for DVC resorts -- but not always WDW. Our points have seen Vero, Grand California ... and I'm very much looking forward to booking Aulani. I have AA reward flights on hold ...

We have used ours for a four night cruise in 1999 and to book stays at the Whitehall in Chicago and the Royal Garden in London, and to stay at the GF and the YC. We won't be wasting them like that again.

We primarily use our points for DVC resorts, but I have traded them out to stay and the Grand Californian (before VGC was built) and the DLH (last fall when we couldn't get into VGC). While the best use of points is for DVC resorts, I don't want someone telling me I can't trade them out for a hotel stay or cruise if I want to. After our two resale contracts close this month we will be done with addonitis (and almost in the 1000 point club!). We'll be good, but I'm just amazed a how quickly we seem to be able to burn through our points even with WDW being so far away!

Like most, we normally use ours for DVC stays. But in the 13 years we have been members we have also used points for 3 DCL cruises (1 a Med cruise), 1 ABD trip to Italy, a stay at the GC at DL prior to VGC, and a stay at YC when we had some reservation points to use up. But most years it is one or two trips to WDW at a DVC resort.
