What do you primarily use your points for?

DVC stays at WDW only

Interesting to note the large percentage of posters who use their posts for WDW resort stays only. Pretty much as I had assumed when I posted the original thread.

And it's also interesting to note that those who had used their points for cruises, almost to a person, wouldn't do it again because of the perceived "lack of value" compared to resort points usage, thereby leading to cash payments for future cruise requirements.

The 3 cruises we used points for weren't too bad on value compared to using cash. We did compare what we paid per point with dues added and looked at the going rates to see what was the better value. Out of 5 cruises we paid points for 3 and cash for 2.

DVC resorts only. I would never, ever, use my points to stay at an RCI property or for any of the other "outside of your DVC resort properties" options. It's a better value to pay cash if I want to stay at one of those places. No offense to RCI owners but the only time I stayed at an RCI property (one of their supposed nicest ones in Ft.Lauderdale) it was an absolute dump compared to DVC. With the DVC resorts I know what I'm getting, and I'm getting what I expect and look forward to- the reason we purchased points years ago to start with.---Kathy

Use our points for WDW stays and rent extra if anything is left.

But now with Aulani opening, don't think we will have any extra

We bought our first batch of points in 2000 and have added on three times. I beleive we used points for two cruises (certainly not a bargain). Generally we pay cash for the cruises. Other than that it has always been at DVC resorts or Disney hotels (prior to AKV and VGC being built). We've never lost any points, so I guess adding on was a good thing for us!

WDW only to date (but we might eventually use them at Disneyland).

We have cruised Disney twice on cash and taken an ABD trip on cash. On our ABD trip there were several families using at least some points. Our ABD trip was booked when the economy sucked - it was half price. There were no bargains on points. Which - like with Disney - tends to be the issue with point bookings. With cash bookings you have a ton of options (Disney prices are too high - cruise Royal Caribbean, there are TONS of options for cash, and a much smaller subset for points) - and those cash bookings can often be gotten at a much better deal than points bookings.

for right now we only use our points to stay at DVC resorts...but who know what the future holds...

We use our points for DVC resorts only. We purchased at two different resorts (SSR & BLT) for the different styles and different purposes of our trips. We like SSR for a non-theme park stays and other Orlando activities due to easy access. We use BLT for trips where we will be going to theme parks more often.
