What do you pay for?

As an offshoot of another project my dd's are interested in the prices of groceries across the country. They decide to try and find out the prices of these five different things. If anyone is willing to help, please respond with the prices you find in your area, and your geographic area rural, suburban, city, would help too if it is not obvious. For instance we would be Northeastern PA - Suburban. Size, brand etc. will vary and change the price but just what you normally pay for your normal brand, or in the case of apples and lettuce price per pound, not hard science here we're just working on creating and reading data from charts and graphs (and discussing the limitations of this information actually helps!) Also, if you know a few off hand but not another feel free to respond- some helps!

Milk: Usually on sale SOMEWHERE for $2.50 a gallon, I rarely see it over $2.99
Bread: The bread we like is normal priced $3.29 a loaf but I tend to buy it on sale for 2/$5
Eggs: I don't buy eggs all that often, but I'm thinking $1.29 for a dozen? Often on sale for $1, but I don't buy them regularly, just when we need them, so I don't alway sget them on sale.
Lettuce: $1.50?

Oh, and I'm in suburban Detroit.

Wheat bread 2 loaves in a bag - 3.00

Apples, a large bag not sure of pounds - about $5

Milk:$3.50 1/2 gallon (we drink Almond milk, but the price is about the same)

Bread: $2.99 for whole wheat, $1.89 for store brand white

Eggs: (we're vegan, so not sure on this one, but I believe they are around $2 or so a dozen at the farmers market.

Apples:$1.29 lb for conventional grown (not Organic)

Lettuce: $2.99-$3.99 for a bag of lettuce or romaine hearts. I've seen iceberg for about $1.29 head.

I am in Northwest Florida in a city. I normally shop sales at Publix and Winn Dixie, occasionally Food World, and Sam's Club.

Milk: I buy store brand, it is usually between 3.50 and 4.89 a gallon. though a few stores have had it on sale for $3 a gallon lately so I have stocked up.
Bread: I pay around a dollar at the bread store if I buy it. I usually make my own.
Eggs: honestly have no clue. My dad usually buys then when he sees we are low.
Apples: my kids don't eat them so I don't buy them.
Lettuce: I just paid 1.79 for a head of iceburg lettuce last weekend. Normally I buy a pound of organic spring mix at Sam's Club for 4.99.

Just to help your kids understand a little: I make almost everything we eat from scratch. We are a family of 5- 3 adults, teen boy, and preschool/toddler girl. My budget for groceries, dog food and all household needs is $300 every two weeks or $600 a month.

Apples - Hmmm around $1 - $1.50 per pound more for Honeycrisp or organic
Lettuce - $1.99 or so per head for organic (red, romaine, etc) $2.99 at Whole Foods but it lasts longer

I am in NW Ohio. I am in a small town, and I do a lot of my shopping at the local Walmart by price matching with ads from stores in the larger city that is about 30 min away.

Milk (2% usually store brand) - $4.07 reg price, but I can always get it on sale for $2 - $2.59 somewhere.

Eggs - $1.68/ doz for large - occasionally on sale a little cheaper.

Bread - $1.39 reg price ( store brand in the bigger city, but it's better than any of the name brands!!!) I only buy when on sale for $0.90 / loaf.

Apples - ~$4.50 / 3 lb bag, but on sale you can get $0.99/lb. Honey crisp (my fav) are about $5.50/bag

Lettuce averages around $1.00 / head (price fluctuates often).

We shop in Gardendale, AL ( about 10 minutes outside of Birmingham)
Milk- 2.99 gal ( we bought organic 2% at 4.59 gal)
Bread- 1.69 loaf whole wheat
eggs- 3.15 doz ( we bought organic cage free for 4.79)
apples- 3.99 for 3lb bag

Milk: $2.99 at Aldi
Bread: $1.09 per loaf (wheat bread) at Flowers Bakery Thrift store (I go a couple of times a month)
Eggs: can usually buy them on sale for about $1.00, but I rarely buy them
Apples: $1.99-$2.99 for a 3-5lb bag at Aldi, but they're tiny. An 8lb bag of extra large apples (which I can make a meal out of, lol) is about $7.99 at a local grocery store.
Lettuce: $1.58 per bag (heads are VERY small right now, not worth the price) at Wal-Mart.

I usually PM store ads at Wal-Mart, and go to Aldi for milk and some frozen stuff. I know lots of people don't like Wal-Mart, but our store is clean, well-stocked and most of the employees are friendly.
