What do you pay for a haircut/color or both?

$25 total for me and she comes to my home!!!! The "little girl next door" grew up to be a hairdresser! BYW, my son gets the "brother discount" $0. They grew up together.

In local salons, cut is about $35 and color is $55 and up.

I pay $35 (plus tip) for my cut and drive about 30 miles to get it. Takes an hour for the cut, my hairdresser is always running late 15-20 min. So, all told, it takes about 2-1/2 to 3 hrs. to get my hair cut. Needless to say I don't get it cut every 5 weeks like I should. I do trim my own bangs and that way I can go longer between cuts. I've always colored (and highlighted) my hair myself. I buy my color at the beauty supply shop (#85N-Clairol). My hairdresser (I've been going to him for about 10 yrs. now) says I do a good job. :goodvibes

Since I have to touch up my roots every 2 weeks (or less!) I can't see paying $40, $50, or more for the coloring. Also, I've gotten the hang of it and do a pretty good job (if I say so myself :rotfl2: ) I only do a full dye job about every 6 months or so. That way I don't have to redo the highlights. And I do have alot of gray, especially the temples and my part. I think if I let it go natural, I'd be 40-50% gray-Yikes, and I'm only 47!

My DH and I use the same person to do our hair. He goes every three weeks, she is lucky if she sees me every other month :teeth: . We pay $40 (that includes a generous tip), although, I think that my hair is like $3 more, but I still write the check for $40...I know, I know... . Shampoo girl gets $3 cash.

I color my own hair....gave up salon coloring when I married DH, just couldn't justify spending the amount of money it costs in this area for coloring. I use L'Oreal Ferria (spelling??) but I am noticing that some of the grey (which is getting much more abundant) is not getting the coverage it needs. So, I am going to try another L'Oreal product. I have much more luck with thier products for hair color and really with only use them, but then, I am doing a darker color, which is easier to do at home than going lighter.

I pay $36 for a shampoo and cut. One of my coworkers was going to beauty school and she was looking for volunteers to color/cut. She did a pretty good job and I don't think it was expensive at all, maybe just supply fees?...

I pay $55 for color/cut/style every 6 weeks or so. It's usually just root color though. A couple of times a year, I also get foil highlights added (I'm blonde). This runs about $75-80, depending on how many I get. My hair stylist is a good friend too! I don't ask her to reduce her rates for me. I have no gray, but my hair needs coloring ever since I was pregnant with DD10 - it went from my natural color of dirty blonde to mousy brown with all the hormones, and never went back to it's natural blonde color. DD10 costs only $10 at the same salon. She's blonde too, with nice natural highlights. I'm just waiting for her to ask about putting color in though....she better get a job first! :)

Wow, some of the prices amaze me. I'm not complaining after reading what alot of people pay. Just had my hair shampooed, cut, highlight (with glaze) for $68 and it looks great. Guess that's an advantage of living in small town Kansas.
