What do you miss most at WDW?

On Main Street there used to be an old fashioned (working) penny arcade with all kinds of old time games. As you face the castle I can picture it being on the left hand side. The arcade was completely charming and enjoyable. It was a magic touch that made the MK one of my favorite parks. It was a great place to go to escape the crowds and the heat of the Florida afternoon day.

I also miss the sky ride in the MK. It was a great way to rest your feet and to travel between lands. It gave you a great vantage point to check out the park. It also was kind of magical. When I picture the MK that I knew as a child it always includes the sky ride in the background.

does anyone know if the old penny movie machines are still there..I loved those! .I keep thinking of more things I don't remember seeing last visit

I was fortunate enough to ride that on our honeymoon in '98 which was MY first trip to WDW and I loved it, especially at night after the sun went down. You could look out over the park and see all the lights and had a great view of the castle.
After our next trip in Jan, however, I will be changing my answer to the Hunback of Notre Dame show at MGM. It has always been a must do for me and my DF!

Horizons
The Adventureland Veranda (MK Counter Service Restaurant)
World Of Motion
Original Figment Journey Into Imagination Ride
Fireworks Factory (Pleasure Island Restaurant)
Original Main Street USA
Handwiches (fast food they used to sell in the parks)
Mr Toad's Wild Ride
Dream Flight
The Timekeeper
Skyway
20,000 Leagues

*sniff* :(

The penny movie machines I believe were in the penny style arcade that is now a gift shop. There were calliopes, real old style pre-computer screen arcade games that went with the genre of the main street theme.

DJ:
I also will really miss the Hunchback show at MGM. I thought it was one of the best productions best cast at the studios.

I miss all my "firsts" on every ride & parade, since honeymoon in 1999
I miss all the new celebrations that launced new parades, shows, and rides, like the millenium celebration
I miss all the laughing, eating, and shopping
I miss the look on DD's face when she saw each character and ate each meal last month, for the first time
I miss all the decent discounts we used to get, without jumping through hoops
I miss it so much right now, and I was only there just over a month ago....
I can't wait to go back!
BTW, Timekeeper and COP were open last month, which was great!

20,000 leagues under the sea, and mr. toad's wild ride for me. i miss 20,000 more i guess, because every time i go back, i can still see the tracks in the lagoon.

What do I miss the most at WDW?

-I miss the innocence of my own youth,
-wandering through the parks with wide eyed wonder-
-figuring my way through the "ticket books"-
the skyway
20,00 leagues
tapestry of nations parade
doug live

I ache looking forward to the next trip back-
-holding my DD's hand strolling through the parks
-letting her choose the next ride
-saying "yes" to all the things we typically say "no" to
-taking it in through her eyes-which capture all the little things we
tend to glance over
-riding kali river rapids 3 times soaked to the bone-and having to buy dry clothes
-having her fall asleep against me on the bus after an incredible day
-seeing her face light up after participating in a Disney parade
Creating lifetime memories again and again and again!!!

Thank You WDW-- with our without pictures, these experiences will forever be in my heart

Since I just got back from WDW, I can think of a few more: World of Motion, the old Discovery Island (the REAL island), Top of the World Sunday Brunch, Future Corps, Main Street Marching Band, the pretty little alley on Main Street in the MK that used to have a flower cart.

The things I miss:

1. River Country- this was our first favorite water park. dd was 5 the first trip and this park was perfect for that age. not soo crowded and I liked when the characters came out and played with the kids.

2. Discovery Island- one of the most underrated attractions in all of disney world in my opinion. this used to be part of a tradition for our family. out to fort wilderness to the petting zoo and a pony ride(peanut;the pony who sadly is also gone now). then on to river country for some swimming and water fun. lunch or early dinner at the Trail's End buffeteria(at that time, the only place at WDW to get real fried chicken), a stroll along the beach, a boat ride over to discovery island and then return to the beach to watch the nighttime water parade. with many of these things gone now, this family tradition has died out.

1. Magic Kingdom
a)The Skyway: got to do it in 96' and 97' and loved the view.
b)20,000 leagues
c)the original tiki room
d)the lion king show

2. The "EPBOTS" over at EPCOT- street act with the two robots. they used audience participation. in was in future world by the fountain. lots of fun........really miss that one.

3. Mickey's tropical Luau at the poly- this was the afternoon version geared toward the kids. great food and lots of fun

4. The Fireworks Factory at Pleasure Island- the food was good, but, this one is for sentimental reasons...this was the first restaurant our family ever ate at while at disney.

I'm sure there are others; just can't think of them right now.

I miss that movie that had Michael Eisner telling Chernabog to sit down and stop blocking his view and Chernabog replies sheepishly "oh, sorry, Mr. Eisner."

:) Being that I'm only 23 most of the rides I'm missing are those we use to enjoy was a family when we had annuals when we were kids/teens...

Magic Kingdom:
If You had Wings and Dreamflight (me and my mom always rode this together, brings back tons of memories)
Mission to Mars
Lion King at MK (always made me cry)
2,000 leagues... I loved this as a kid
Old Tiki Room
Mickey's Birthday Show (where toon town is now), just loved the birthday cake!!

EPCOT:
World of Motion
Horizons (loved getting to pick our adventure)
Captain EO
The Old Illuminations (another Mom and I favorite)

MGM:
Super Star Television
The View when you enter

I almost forgot JIYI... that was my FAVORITE ride ever, I have a figment I bought (well mom did) when I was verry little... I absolutly love Fig and the Spark song, new ride isn't as exciting!

And being that my parents are now divorced and I'm older, I miss the memories the most, the family time. I can't wait till we have children and can share the magic with them. Disney is such a "touching" place, corny I know, but a lot of my favorite childhood memories were made here....

I still remember my mom bringing warm clothes for us at night, she would bring us into the bathroom and change us into warm Pj's and give us a "bath" of sorts before the parade or fireworks. Cuddling with my dad watching Illuminations, it was just wonderful... *sniffle*

If You Had Wings, Mission To Mars, Skyway, Mr Toad, Superstar Television at MGM, the old Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe (tried it last year again and didn't like it, was way too heavy and sweet), and if I can think of others, I will come back and post, lol.

Jules

Thank you Darwin, you just reminded me of another one, lol, the 20K under the sea ride, I also miss that.

Jules

Can anyone tell me if they still sell saltwater taffy at the penny arcade? I was at MK last November, but never made it there, and was just wondering, that stuff was great!!

Jules

i miss the ride portion of the living seas, tapestry of nations, and the old journey into imagination...
most of all though i miss the times when you could go into the parks and not worry about safety; i miss not having to go through security mostly because it's a constant reminder of what this world is really like
