What do you like on your steak..

I love the Montreal Steak Seasoning, but for the most part I'm a purist, and use just a little bit of salt, if that.

a light coating of a spice rub, then grill that baby medium rare!

it amused me to no end when I was waitressing to have people order their steak well done and then complain that it was dry and had no flavor and they needed to drown it in steak sauce to perk it up. while I'm sure there is a few people in this world who like rare steak with steak sauce, there is definitely an inverse porportion of doneness/use of steak sauce.

I did have a guy once who ordered a kingsize slab of very rare prime rib and then dump an entire bottle of ketchup over the whole thing. that was gross!

Depending on the cut of the steak and where we are at - Medium Rare to Medium. And the only steak that needs a sauce is Prime Rib. Steak sauce is BAD!

Side dish - again, depends on the cut and where we are. Sometimes it's a loaded baked potato, sometimes a baked sweet potato, rice, fries. Sometimes no side, just give me a big old piece of "Bessie".

It home my own steak rub on the bbq. When out "Lawry's Steak Sauce" or something call "tiger sauce". It depends on what they have.

Salt and Pepper. Thats it. I like the taste of steak not the taste of steak sauce.

My opinion is if you need steak sauce then you're not buying a high enough quality of steak.

Sauteed mushrooms and onions over a good filet mignon! YUM!

On the side, some steamed broccoli and corn. Now I'm hungry. :sad2:

At home I enjoy A1 sauce. At Steak houses, I enjoy mushrooms and onions (not atop but to the side).

a nice electric guitar (oh, and salt!) :lmao:

maybe a little pepper, but i agree that a good steak should be fine without any kind of sauce.

Just a little salt and pepper with a pat of butter on top. Classic, but still the best. Pan fried onions and mushrooms on the side, please. Add a baked potato w/sour cream and some asparagus spears (hollandaise optional) and there you go!

I don't eat red meat, but I cook it for DH, so I will tell you what he likes:

His favorite cut is the bone-in rib eye, 1 inch thick. Second choice is porterhouse, 1 to 1 1/2" thick. Third is New York strip, 1 1/2" thick. He does not like filet mignon, he says it has no flavor (I would not know). He likes the strip and the porterhouse rare, the ribeye medium rare. I usually use a little montreal seasoning or garlic powder and salt.

For sauce, I keep compound butters in the freezer, and will heat up a little of that to go on top. His favorites are blue cheese or cilantro-chili.

He only gets steak about every two-three weeks, so he is futsy about it.

Bearnaise to dip my filet (medium well) in. I love my steaks a little dry, kind of grey. I know, I am odd.

Gotta have a baked tater, some asparagus (with hollandaise) and a salad. I will take garlic toast instead of the tater, too...

Since we've been cutting down on cholesterol rich foods, I've had the chance to get away from the dripping with real butter and blue cheese steaks we used to make...

Now it's 3/4" or less thick ribeyes, with salt, pepper, and garlic powder on both sides,a light coating of coffee grounds on one side and worcestershire sauce on the other before broiling. It's amazingly good.

Gotta have a baked potato with it. Mmmmmmmmmm.

Or you just don't like steak that much. I like the taste of the steak sauce, not the taste of the meat! I only eat steak when it is served to me, not really by choice.

I'm not one for sauces and I prefer all my meat "unflavored."

I agree with those who posted that a good steak doesn't need anything, although I doo like an occasional Outback steak.

For me, just a bit of salt, french fries, and a cold beer is all I need to be happy. Maybe a nice soup as a starter.
