What do you get with Priceline?

Has anyone used priceline to purchase a hotel near Disney or Universal? If so, what did you get? What price did you give them? What level hotel did you select?

If we give them a quote on a "2 1/2 star moderate plus", what are we likely to get?

Thanks!!!

I always use www.biddingfortravel.com to give me an idea of what's coming up. We use Priceline for one night stays prior to WDW. I've stayed at the La Quinta near the airport 2x, Wyndham Orlando, Gaylord Palms (resort level), and the MCO Marriott. Good luck bidding! :tink:

I put in a bid for a 2.5 star near Universal, WDW or Kissimmee and got the Amerisuites convention Center on I-drive for $40/night. Pretty good deal since the hotel is going for $119/night.

I've used pricline twice in Orlando area (and many other cities too). However it was for a split stay in 2004. We bid 2 rooms at each resort.

We got 3*--Sheraton Safari- for either $37 or $38 a night I can't remember. This was a case though of where they could not put the 2 rooms near each other- or even in the same building. Wasn't a problem because the other room was for my MIL (might of even been a good thing ;) ). But-- I know often people want to know how bidding on the 2 rooms will work- and you are not guaranteed connecting rooms.

Then we bid 2.5*-- got Holiday Inn Nikki Bird for $27/nt. I HATED this hotel. I, personally, thought it was really run down. Maybe it's because we had just come from the Sheraton for a few nights. They won't allow a single check-in until 4pm-- then the line is 2 miles long and it takes forever. We had 2 smoking units- and were told there was nothing they could do about it. MIL didn't mind she's a smoker. BUT I have asthma and this could potentially be a problem. The room thankfully didn't have a smokey odor (MIL's did really bad though)-- and it wasn't a problem for me. Anyway-- after returning home-- the Holiday Inn Corp. sent me a survey about my stay. I filled it out honestly and added a few remarks in the comment section. I have stayed at many HI's and this one definetly was not close to the standards of the one's I've stayed in the past. They refunded both rooms in full to me- even though we stayed via priceline. I was impressed. I had not asked for a refund-- but they said they understood what I said and issued the full refund. I didn't even go looking for anything-- I only made the comments because they sent me the survey.

Anyhow-- those have been my exp. w/ Priceline in the WDW area. I will use it again in a heartbeat, but only on 3* or better.

Another good site is betterbidding.com That's where I got all my info. I used HOtwire, not quite the same as priceline but similar and I got the RAdisson Worldgate for 57 dollars a night for 6 nights in March.

The web site is EXHAUSTIVE. THere is more information there than you will ever wish you have known! It just about blew my mind.

Good luck! pixiedust:

I also used betterbidding.com to find out which hotels were on hotwire. After reading the descriptions and amenities I concluded that the hotel I was looking at for $31/night was the Best Western Lakeside. I've stayed there before and it was exactly what I wanted. So I took the chance and it was indeed the Best Western. I was thrilled. :woohoo:
