What do you do with your "stuff" at the pool?

Hello!

I have a question...

What do you do with your "stuff" when you are swimming in the pool or at the water parks? Especially your room key... what if someone sneaks away with it? :tiptoe:

Just curious, since it would be just the two of us with no one to watch our stuff while we swim!

Thanks! :goodvibes

Welcome to the Dis Boards. If there is no one to stay behind and watch our stuff, we at least try to sit in a location where we can see our stuff while swimming. There are also water proof items that you can buy and wear on your wrist or around your neck while swimming. Hope this helps. :)

Depending on where your staying, the pool areas usually are not so huge that you can not place your belongings in a spot and keep one eye on them while your swimming. When I last went to Typhoon Lagoon, I didn't take many valuables other than our room keys/tickets to the World. I stuck them in a back pack, and stuck that underneath my lounge chair so it could not be seen due to my towel on top. This may not be the best practice in Orlando, but coming from Maine I'm just used to crime/theft not being a huge factor. The due rent lockers for a small fee that may be more prudent than my method :hippie:

We keep and eye on our stuff, but are not overly concerned with it. DH's keeps the room key in his swim suit pocket while we are swimming.

They sell the waterproff card holders at most of the resorts and both waterparks.

If we take more then that we get a locker and put it in there.

I would never leave our stuff because we are on the go at the waterparks . For those that hang out around their chairs I see no problem.

It's also no even that someone would steal it but the small kids will pick up anything and start to play with it . The next thing you know it's in the water or under another chair before the parents relise what they are doing.

I really just bring my room key and a few dollars. Jam it all in a sock and shoe and it is pretty much off the radar. Especially if your sneakers look like mine...

They have lockers you can rent for the day, you keep the key with you.

We had no problems with this method last year.

I was just thinking about this myself, as I was trying on swimsuits for an upcoming trip.

Thanks for the tips!

I like this idea... I just wasn't sure if the keycard would still work after it got wet. I don't see why not, but I am no Magnetic Strip Expert. :rotfl:

Thanks for the suggestions!

This is what we use. I bring a waterproof card holder to the pool and wear it around my neck. We also bring 1 beach towel from home to mark our chair so we can spot our "spot" in the sea of white towels. It's always an old towel and we throw it away at the end of our trip so we don't have to bring it back home.

This past Aug DS & I lost our things while in the WL pool. A pool boy came by and scooped up everything. We later found most of the items in Lost and Found. What wasnt there the WL staff replaced w/comparable $ from the store.

I do this too. I like the waterproff card holder so I know it is always with me and I don't have to worry about it. I bought mine at my resort (CBR) and when I went to BB the CM told me she thought the card holders sold at the resorts were better than the ones sold at BB. To me they looked pretty much the same but she said that the ones they sold sometimes let some water in and they would have soggy money. Mine worked great. I also liked having the locker for the rest of my stuff at BB.

I still used the card holder for the pools at the resort but just left towels and other stuff on the lounge chair.

The card holder is what I actually use the entire trip it's perfect to hold my AP ,room key,DL,Photopass card,CC and a $20 just in case.Fastpasses go right in as well.

I have mine on a chain that I clip to the drawstring or a belt loop so I don't have to worry about losing it.

It's also great for the wet rides like Kali and Splash when they have the water cranked up or even a good rain day.

At the waterparks, get a locker. The key has an elastic strap that fits around your ankle or wrist, ot around you bathing suit strap.

I can't really offer a logical explanation, but something happens to my crime radar while at Disney. We don't bring a lot down to the pool, but we do leave our room key wrapped around a shirt or beach wrap on the chair we choose to share. We leave shoes, drinks mugs and cameras there too.

I guess I lose a little of my natural New Yorker mistrust when I enter the World!

Usually my mom comes down with me and hangs onto my stuff because she doesn't swim (the last time I remember her in a swimsuit is 1988). If not, I have a waterproof plastic case to keep my key, money, etc in. I bought it at the Contemporary. It's teal (they also had pink, green, yellow, etc) with a black cord. The top flips open and it has a little "lock" on the front like on a toolbox (except you don't put a lock on it, it just flips down and secures in that way). You can keep it around your neck or wrist while you swim. Like I said, I got mine at the Contemporary, but I know they have them at other resorts and parks, with different logos.

ETA: I see that some people above were worried about the waterproof card holders not being so waterproof. Think of it this way: the things you have in there (money, room key, credit cards, identification) most likely will not be completely damaged if they happened to get wet. Money dries (I know this from personal experience at Dorney Park), the room key can be replaced though I don't think it would need to, same thing with credit cards, IDs can get wet AFAIK). This isn't the type of thing you would keep your camera in or anything, so it wouldn't be the end of the world, just a small hassle at most.
