What do you do with kids while in line?

We are leaving for DL in three days I was hoping to find out what you do with you're kidos while waiting in line? I'm bringing a 5yo, 3yo, and almost 2yo. Other than snacking what do you do to keep from having a meltdown?!?! Thanks for the feedback!

Welcome to the board luvdisney!!
I'm not sure if you have been to Disneyland before but I found that the lines moved fairly quickly and that there are usually lots of things to look at while in line. Although my kids aren't as young as yours I didn't find it as painful as I thought it would be!! Since there are so many things to look at, try a game of I Spy, or the alpahbet game where each person has to name something with each letter of the alpahbet - of course help would be given to the younger ones but the 5 yr.old would probably do well. Usually talk about we see. How to load the ride. For 5 yo and maybe 3yo, count things. Talk about what we last went on, or saw.

My twin boys are 5. We play a game with categories: fruit, colors, Disney rides, etc. We take turns and whoever can't think of something is out. Also lots of random discussions and something all kids love -- a story about them when they were babies/young. Mesmerizing haha.

It normally isn't a problem because we are always talking about what we did or what we're going to do. We like to bring our park maps and the girls like to talk about what they want to do. Silly but our girls love to play a toy story iPhone app while in the toy story line.

Thank you so much for all of the wonderful ideas! (and the warm welcome) I will try some of these things when we go. I have only been there as a child and now taking my kids I'm finding a whole new way to enjoy the magic! My 3yo is very advanced and is learning at the same level as my 5yo so some of these "grouping games" and "I spy" would be fun for them. I'm hoping lines will be moving super fast

Sit and chat.....we have mini chairs that fit in my back pack and they are great for long waits. The kids love them and it is good to be off your feet while standing in line. We all enjoy the people watching from/in line....

Do you have an iphone or ipod touch? If you do you could download some Disney games or apps, or some Disney videos and cartoons. Lots of the rides have fun lines anyway, I let a bunch of people go in front of me in lines because I was too preoccupied looking at the details!

The last 2 years we have played I SPY and also allowed our DD4 to buy small Princess figurines at one of the stores ( or shiny jewels tha they sell) she playes with them while in line. When we get ready to board I put them in my pocket so she doesnt lose them. I stumbled upon this idea by accident and it has been a godsend!!!

I always kept little items in my backpack or purse to keep them busy (learned this the hard way on our first trip when we had to wait for almost 2 hours to ride Dumbo in WDW!) So from then on I made sure my son had a hot wheels car or (later as he got older) a little transformer and for both my DS and DD a small pad of paper and two small pens (not pencils cause if they break you are out of luck) Then I would tell them to draw what they see, you would be surprised at some of the things they came up with! A sheet of stickers and be fun so long as they are put on paper and it can roll up quite small.Anything that you might take for an airplane ride is usually an option for a line up too. Have a great time...

I had to laugh at the hot wheels cars. I think my twin boys were 7 before I stopped keeping two hot wheels in my purse all the time. We took those cars EVERYWHERE! They were very handy for sitting nice restaurants!

When my girls were little we played a game called bubble bubble pop. It is the lamest game ever but totally kept them entertained. They spin in circles, I say bubble, bubble, bubble while they spin and when I say pop they pop down and touch the ground. I start with the bubble bubble thing again and they stand up and spin. There is no winner or anything. They could play this forever .

Still as a statue, quiet as a mouse. I used to play this with my first graders while we waited in line to leave in the afternoon. You have to be absolutely still and absolutely quiet, first to move or make noise loses. They loved it.

I make scavenger hunt/trivia books for my boys ages 8 and 6. There are plenty of things in the books for them to work on in a line, and then things for them to do as we wander the park. My book asks them to find a CM from our home town (still haven't found, but found someone in a neighboring town), get a map from Jungle Cruise, find a map in another language, trace the boarding pass for Dumbo, crossword puzzles, word searches, etc.

We make sure my 6 year old's itouch is fully charged. He also uses my Android and can be totally entertained watching youtube. Otherwise, I tend to have problems with him wanting to climb a rail which is not only against the rules there but drives me bonkers.... He also usually has a Lego set in my purse (yeaa me lol)

If the lines aren't moving very quickly, we put adults in front of and in back of the kids so they can run around between us. Nothing like letting them run around to wear 'em down.
