what do you do when you call the wrong number

I always apologize and say I have the wrong number. If I call back and it's still a wrong number, I apologize again and say I really have the wrong number. I do not call back a third time.

A couple years ago, I called to make a reservation at a hotel and somehow ended up getting a man in his home office out in California. He proceeded to tell me that frequently he received calls for this hotel and couldn't figure it out. So, I told him the number I dialed and what hotel I was trying to get to. It was a really strange conversation because it was a wrong number but we spent several minutes on the phone trying to solve the mystery. Hopefully, my wrong number call was able to help him straighten out the problem so he didn't receive the hotel calls anymore. He was going to look into it based on the information I had given him. Strange but maybe a good wrong number for him. I never did get through to the hotel, booked elsewhere so it was really the hotels loss of revenue.

For a number of years we got calls from men looking for someone with DH's name who was a famous...

Rodeo Clown! :p :)

When he finishes, I say, "I just want to make sure I got this right. For $5.40 a week, about $60 a month, $720 a year, I can get all of these magazines for free." I just kept on rambling on and on about the "deal" for several minutes until he finally hung up on me. I never got that call again.

LOL!! :p

I just apologise and hang up.

I once got a wrong number call for a person who had our number years ago. The funny thing was, when I told the guy he had the wrong number, he double-checked and said, "Nope. I've got the right number, but its been a few years since I've called." So I told him they must have moved because this is our number now." he said Ok, and was about to hang and then asked, "Hey, you wouldn't happen to know where they moved to, would you?"

I ended up dating a guy who called my apartment instead of his friends. They were off by one number. Lucky me!!

<font color=navy>I usually apologize, verify that the number I was supposed to dial was actually one that I dialed, and then hang up (after wishing the person a nice day lol).

One time, though, I called a wrong number and ended up talking to the guy for two hours - good thing it was a local call. :)

I always apologize then hang up.

I hate when people just hang up on me.

OMGOSH that happened to ME too!!!

I couldnt believe it.

I always apologize. It is my mistake and I feel I owe the person an apology for disturbing them.

One weeknight, I got a call at 2:00 A.M. Well, you know how phone calls late at night makes you worried that it is a family emergency or something? It gets the adrenaline going and makes it hard to fall back asleep. Anyway I could hear a party going on but no one said anything. No apology for waking me or even a "sorry, wrong number." The next morning when I got up at 6:30 A.M., I called the number back from caller ID. I said, "Hi, you called me last night. What did you need?" I obviously woke the guy up. He was confused so I explained that he had called me at 2:00 A.M. and woke me up so I felt it was only fair that I call him when I was awake and see what he needed. He said "Oh, sorry, I dialed the wrong number." I said, "Have a nice day" and hung up.

ask them why they're calling me or why they're answering my friends phone in an accusing tone. A good defense is going on the offensive.

I apologize politely - hang up - and then smack myself in the forehead for being so inept in the first place!!

I say I am sorry that I must have dialed the wrong number. Sometimes I tell them the number I was attempting to dial, to see if it is incorrect.

I usually check the number, and always apologize.

In fact, I'm such a goody two shoes, that if I reach an answering machine in error, I wll leave a message saying, I'm sorry, I have reached the wrong number.

I hate getting hang ups on mine. And you never know, I don't want some married couple to think one or the other is cheating.....

I always apologize then hang up. However there was a time when I got news on a concert that I wanted to go to and I knew a co-worker would go to but I didnt have her number so I looked it up in the phone book. Called and talked to this person for over an hour even confirmed that she wanted to go to the concert too. Then I mentioned her boyfriends name and she acted like she never heard of him.. Thats when we both got the clue that she wasnt the Crystal that I worked with and I wasnt the Tyna that she worked with! LOL:o

I say that I’m sorry and that I must have dialed incorrectly.

I once had a phone call from a woman whom I thought was a friend of mine. We talked for about 10 minutes…’How’ve you been?’… ’Pretty good, and you?’… blah blah blah. Then, she finally asked, ‘Is this Pam?’ I said, ‘No, is this Ann?’ Maybe you had to be there, but it was pretty funny at the time.

I say that I'm sorry and I must have called the wrong number.

But I wonder why we say "THE wrong number"? Have you ever noticed that we say it like there was only ONE wrong number we could have possibly called?
