If you are staying in a say value resort (which is 1 room correct?) and the little ones OR big ones are sleep, do you and your DH/SO just tip toe around so as not to wake the kids?

What if you aren't sleepy and it's early and you want to watch TV or something? I could see it with like a 1 or 2 bedroom villa but I'm trying to picture privacy at night in a 1 room resort.

We just tip toe around. My DD is normally so wiped out by bedtime that she falls asleep in about 2 minutes. We leave the tv on and turn off the lights.

I hate being in this situation. I'm an early riser and have sat on the bathroom floor reading or even eating breakfast. NOT FUN! Tha's why we bought timeshares in 1996 and never looked back. We can scatter to our separate bedrooms for rest and leave whoever wants to be there in the living room with the big TV and the kitchen with the food.

My total cost per night is pretty comparable to a hotel room. Since there are six of us now, we save money over two rooms.

That is the worst part about any one room hotel/resort. For us its really hard at nap time because DS will not fall asleep with the rest of us walking around the room. We generally have to lay down too. At bed time its alittle easier as the kids are beat and fall right to sleep (and we usually do too, LOL).

Fortunately this trip my parents are going to be there part of our stay and we are requesting rooms near each other. I plan on packing the monitor so that we can put him in one room and then hang out in the other.

Before we bought into the vacation club, we had this problem a lot. Usually, I would watch the TV with the close caption on until the little one fell asleep and then turned it on low, or just read a magazine (or study the maps for planning the next day). DH would use this opportunity to hit the pool or hot tub.

A value resort room would just be one room with the bathroom (toilet/shower) separate.

OUr DS is usually so wiped out that he falls asleep rather quickly. However, I tend to wake up early so I plan ahead a bit the night before. I like to do some of our laundry so we don't have to pack too many things, so if I get up early I head out to the laundry room and get that done. Or I just go for a walk (if it is light outside) and experience the quietness of the resort.

Another good tip is to bring a small nightlight for the sink area (outside the toilet/shower) as the lights are really bright if you are trying to brush teeth, etc... It is easier just to switch on the little nightlight to see what you're doing rather than wake everyone by switching on a big light.

Next trip we are renting points for a 1 bedroom so we can have more privacy and a whirpool/jacuzzi tub! :)

I propped the door open just a crack and took a chair outside the door and read a book. My brothers room had lawn chairs outside their door.

This is the reason that we're staying off site in a rented villa.
Our previous vacations with our children now aged 6 & 3, which have been here in the U.K. or in Europe, have been in hotel rooms and have involved having to sit in the dark/tip toe around/sit in the bathroom and have the children end up waking each other up etc.
Next month we're taking them to Disney for their 1st time. There was no way that i was going to have to suffer for 3 weeks with the 4 of us squashed into 1 room.
Now we'll all have seperate rooms. I'll be able to watch t.v. make a drink, even have a swim in our own pool with out any worries.
It's cheaper than staying on site too.
Before the children came along DH and I stayed in off site hotels, but there's no way i'd do this now.

Ft. Wilderness Cabins.

It is the main reason that we shelled out the extra $$$$$. At first, I wasn't thrilled with the idea since we loved Dixie Landings for our honeymoon. The little man is a great sleeper at 18 months and will be 2 when we get to Ft. Wilderness.

I am looking forward to spending some time with my wife after he goes to bed and rekindling some of the magical conversations that we have at home concerning diapers, wipes, dripping noses, what he ate, what he didn't eat (which is a very short list), etc. You know, the married with kids conversations.

Seriously, the thought of being able to hang out on the couch or on the porch while he sleeps in the bedroom is the main reason we chose the cabin.

I so totally agree! Our budget is pretty tight but we decided to work some extra overtime to afford the ft wilderness cabin. Costing twice as much but we'll be saving a good bit on groceries (most bkfsts, some lunch, one dinner).

I just couldn't see taking a vacation where I couldn't take a breather from the kids at the end of the night. I would be nuttier than I already am. Anyway, ft wilderness has other nice things for the little ones like petting zoo, nature trails, beach, pony rides, campfire singalong and marshmallow roast. It's definitely gonna be worth the extra money!

We stay offsite for this very reason. We get two full bedrooms and a living room and kitchen to use and the kids go to bed in their room and we can have vacation time too just relaxing reading or whatever.

When we have stayed in one room, even my booklight bothers DD so no WAY is that fun. I don't want to go to bed at 9:00 or before thank you!

We have always stayed at the Value Resorts and I guess we are lucky that we have not had this problem. Our kids could sleep through an earthquake and even more so when they have been at the parks all day - they are just wiped out. They have always been early risers - so, they ususally wake before we do.

We decided to get a 1 bdrm at BWV for this very reason. We are going to put our dd2, in the bedroom, and we will then just sleep out on the pullout. (A small sacrifice, but worth it to stay up IMO.) It is a little more money, but we rented from a DVC member and I think it will be worth every penny. We even decided to get the Boardwalk view so that once dd goes to bed, we can even sit out on the balcony and watch the hustle of the boardwalk nightlife so we still feel "part of the action." :cool1: It is more money, but there isn't a price on my sanity  and relaxation!
