What do you do for an ingrown toenail?????

go to the doctor
i have had surgery on both big toes
had the nail removed on one to
its fine now
but it can get infected easily

After suffering for years from ingrown toenails, I had a procedure done that worked wonders. I had tried all of the usual things like cutting the V, using the Dr. Scholl's product, etc. I even had my toenail removed. Once it grew back, it was a problem again. I finally went to a doctor who removed the root of the nail from the nail bed just along the outer corner. In short, the part of the nail that was always cutting into the side of my toe could not grow back. Once it healed, you'd never know I'd had anything done by looking at it. But, I no longer had any pain. I'd recommend this procedure to anyone who suffers from ingrown toenails.

I am going to have to keep this in mind. These seem to happen a few times a year, always on the same toe. That is way to often for me.

Thanks DisneyGirl4188 :thumbsup2

Well since I haven't seen this mentioned here yet, this is what I do and it works each time (as long as you get it early on) and is only mildly uncomfortable. Soak your foot in epsom salts or a skin softening bubble bath, etc. Then, get a piece of cotton or cotton ball and roll a piece of it into a thin thread. Start at the other side of your nail and slowly work the thread down along the edge of the nail. When you get to the side that's ingrown, just slip the cotton under the nail and slightly tug upward. The nail pops back out over the skin. I usually follow up with some Neosporin Pain Relief ointment for a day or two. Viola... all better!

I think one of the worst pains is ingrown toenails. I agree with so many that said to seek out a podiatrist. :goodvibes

After years of suffering :guilty: with IGTN and seeing my podiatrist on a regular basis for this, I had the sides of my big toes stripped. Yup, they can do minor surgery and strip the sides of the toe. :)

WOW, what a great big huge relief. I never ever have IGTN anymore. :)

For me it seemed every single time one would "flare up" I was headed on vacation, off to some party or celebration and I was miserable. And my DS' were also on the path to misery until they as well (years after me) had their nails stripped. :)

OP, call a podiatrist and get yourself all checked out. Inquire about having the nails stripped IF you feel like this is ongoing with your nails. Once your nails are all healed from this latest IGTN then make the appt for yourself. :)

Y'all are brave:thumbsup2 I'm getting a little light headed and weak-kneed just reading about this.:scared1:

This is the procedure that DH had done last year. He sings it's praises often.

Dh goes to the dr. But on mine I just dig them out and cut/pull them out.

Cry.. :( They are so painful.. That's why I'm so careful when I cut my toenails..

Funny, but my DGD was just asking me this weekend why I cut my toenails the way I do..

Hope it resolves soon.. :)
