Well, my tummy is starting to feel not so well right now (2am) My DS11 is also up saying his tummy hurts and has diarhea and my DS9 said his hurt last night. I gave my DS11 some Imodium a little bit ago. What helps? I SO DO NOT want to throw up. And don't want to see my boys sick. Is this something that you have to let run it's course or can I nip it in the bud before it gets more serious? Thanks

If it's a virus i think its better just to let it take its course. If you try and stop it with medicines etc you could end up constipated and in more trouble, i would say if its going to happen it will. Sorry:sad1:

I hope you and your family feel better soon though!:wizard:

Do you have any dramamine or gravol in the house? This will help alleviate nausea.

We've all had it here. We immediately went to clear fluids at first sign and started taking acidolpholus to restore the working systems. Tylenol for the aching and once our bodies stopped evacuating, "BRAT" bananas, rice, applesauce and toast in small amounts. I'm a firm believer in, 'it's gotta run it's course.' with quick restorative measures. Sipping water is best at first because flooding the system with fluids makes one feel pretty bad sloshing around. We were using diluted poweraid too with some flatted sprite for salts and sugar.

Dramamine makes me too drowsy to use when I am doing something in motion, but perfect for when I am sick and want to sleep the feeling away!

Let it run it's course. No food, no ibuprofen (upsets the stomach), pedialyte/watered down sports drinks, small sips. After 24 hours of no vomiting, brat diet. Vomiting and diarrhea are the body's way of removing the virus. I think the human body can go about 2 weeks without food, so let the belly rest, and just liquids.

We all just went through this at my house. I agree that the only thing to do is ride it out. It wasn't fun, but we are feeling back to normal now. Your body has to get rid of the toxins and give it time to recover by drinking small amounts of clear fluids and eating bland for a day or two. Hope you start feeling better soon!

I agree, you just have to let it ride its course. It stinks, but it honestly is better than having those toxins in your body that could do who knows what damage in the end! A diarreha flu has been going around here (AGAIN, there was a terrible one at the end of summer too), so maybe you just have that? How are you feeling today? Give us an update!

It's running rampant through my family. I was with my mom on Monday and she called me yesterday saying she had it really bad. I came down with it last night starting with headache & fever, followed by diahhrea and then vomitting. I haven't vomitted since 2:30 this morning but the diahhrea continues. I talked to my doctor's office a bit ago who said this is going around and just needs to run it's course. I am really achy and tired but not bed ridden as my mom was.

Sorry... unfortunately, I know what you are going through:sad2:

I find that Pepto Bismol in the pill form works wonders for stomach bugs/GI issues.

Once I went to the doctor (walk-in clinic) when I had a stomach bug. She prescribed me something for nausea. I can't rememeber what the name of it is, but it may be worth a try.

I sip on Coke to ease the nausea. After a day and a half of no food (no appetite), I started with crackers, then went to rice and canned peaches.

As others have said, it has to run it's course. You'll feel better once you've thrown-up, sorry.

If you are really sick to your stomach and can't keep anything down but don't have diarrhea your doctor can prescribe rectal suppositories called Phenergan to help with the vomiting. I swear by this stuff ONLY if you don't have the runs though! It makes the vomiting stop but it will make you tired.

Otherwise no eating, drink liquids and my MIL swears that drinking chicken broth will help quell the nausea but when my stomach is churning chicken broth is the last thing I want to think about.

Hope you feel better soon! I would rather have anything other than stomach flu! I HATE to throw up!

My whole family was passing this around at Christmas. I caught it a few days after Christmas about 2 hours into our 9 hour drive home. We had to stop in the middle of nowhere and get a hotel for the night. Luckily I told gf to pull off the highway just at the right time and made it into the hotel about 3 minutes before the diareah and vomiting started. I did feel better after I threw up, so even though I know it sucks, I'd say just let it happen rather than try to resist it.

And as others have said just drink a lot of liquid and maybe have crackers for the first day or so. I've never been one to pay all that much attention to drinking a lot of liquids or being really good about adding in food slowly when I have a stomach bug. Last time I had one (July) I paid for my carelessness. I ate too soon and that made my diareah come back and last for days. Around day 4 I started vomiting (even though there was nothing in my stomach) and couldn't stop, so I ended up in the ER. They said I was dehydrated (and apparently that is what caused the non-stop vomiting) and they gave me an IV for a few hours. Wow--after 2 liters of fluid pumped into my veins I felt soooo much better.

Good luck--hope you and your kids feel better soon!
