What do you dislike most about flying?

Ducklite....can we fly together some time?? You and I are on the same page. I hate those that carry all that stuff and then stand around in the aisle, trying to shove it all in. I still think that everyone with more than a totebag should be seated in the rear of the plane....that way they could take as much time as they want putting their stuff away and then getting it back down. And I can just grab my totebag from under the seat and go!!!! My 11 y/o dd does better than most adults at the airport.

The fact that there is nothing holding up the plane.
But i won't take a drink or any other aide because of the infinitesimal chance that if there is a survivable accident i don't want my mind to be impaired.

People who don't fly often and dont have a clue. They don't have the right ID, or they don't have it out, and hold up the entire line hunting for it. Then they walk six abreast so you can't pass them. Or the people who STAND on the left side of the moving walkways and won't move to the right, even though it SAYS STAND RIGHT, WALK LEFT.

The people who bring too much stuff on with them. People who can't manage their own luggage and expect someone to help them. People who whack you in the head with their bags because they have too many as they go down the aisles, and it REALLY makes me angry that the gate agents let them carry all that crap on! people with kids who RUSH to preboard, then hold up everyone getting off becuase they want to be first off, even though they have a gazillion things to deal with.

People who put their seat all the way into your lap just at the beginning of meal service. People who kick your sat the entire trip. People who let their kids stand up and drool all over the seat back and cough or sneeze their bugger faces at you.

People who BATHE in perfume, reek of stale smoke, or have BO.

People who have seats in the back of the plane and put their roll-on in the first overhead they come to.

People with assigned middle seats who take the aisle seat and then get pissy with you about moving.

People who can't fit into their own space and expect to raise the armrest to take half of the seat you paid for as well.

I could go on, but you get the picture. I don't mind anything about flying, it's the other passengers that get me going.
wow. nuff said. :)

I am getting the dimensions for the overhead compartment and making absolutely sure our carry-on's are small enough. quick in, quick out. My only problem is the car seat and stroller I will have to check at the boarding ramp.

Dont they let people with small children (2 and under) pre-board?

Depends on the airline, whether or not they are running late, and the whim of the gate agent.

I'll second that! I HATE take off's! I HATE the feeling in my stomach! YUCK!
I still dread the takeoff in Rock 'n Roller Coaster. But I'll still ride it. (Visited WDW several times since it opened but wasn't until Aug. '04 I got up the courage for my first ride.)

There's gotta be something holding up the plane. Otherwise the plane would have fallen down a minute ago. One of these days someone will invent glass bottom planes (like glass bottom boats). Then everyone will have something to look out at and there will be less boredom.

Tell them to give you the handle end. And drag it to the seat in front of them, not overhead. Others will thank you for the latter.

(copied from another post) If they get a bad bad reaction they deserve all of it. If you have to, bat the bag out of the way.

Health hazard, let the stewardess know.

Not good to have your roll-on so far away you can't see it, sometimes someone actually takes it down, passes it around [999 bottles of beer on the wall] and later the stewardess comes and when no one is in sound of her voice to claim it, gate checks it.

Don't give in.

Pusing the armrest back down is a gesture in principle but does not solve the problem because the arm rest doesn't go all the way from seat to shoulder height. If you know there are lots and lots of empty seats, sit someplace else. The airline must reseat you if you ask. Just be sure to ask before departure, asking for the complaint resolution officer if needed.

Your car seat must also be FAA approved as an airline booster seat then you can bring it on board for your kid to sit in.

(copied from another post) Ask to pre-board. Whether or not they let you, you can still take the time you need to get settled without saying anything and without telling anyone.

... or pull back on my seat alot.
If you think someone is about to pull on your seat, sit forward slightly and push the recline button.

One more thing, bring your brother in law. There are advantages in going to WDW together with relatives and their families.

If you learn to get through all this without giving in, you should have no problem dealing with rude people at parades.

I hate to fly too....I hate EVERYTHING from going up....everything in between ...and coming back down. This is my DS 7 first time in a plane,I haven't flown since 2000, I usually drive , but its faster to fly...so Song Airlines here I come! :wave2: :sad2:

All of it!! The wait, the searches, the crowded planes, the feeling of NOT being in control at any point---.

Question (not worthy of its own theard)....
is it because I'm sensitive to take-offs or have I just been "lucky" but every takeoff I've had out of MCO has been horrible between turbulance and really bad drops. The last takeoff coming home there were people actually gasping and ohhhing!! Took me awhile to get over that one. It has been the same thing with descending into BWI. It makes me wonder if it is something with the jet streams, air temps, ??? I was just wondering if it was just me.

I don't remember our takeoff being bumpy but then I am pretty much as tense and shaky as I can be during takeoff so I probably wouldn't have noticed.

I don't mind too much about flying EXCEPT for the idea that it can FALL AND CRASH at any moment!!

I honestly wouldn't care if the plane did spins and flips, as LONG AS I KNEW 100% that we wouldn't crash to the ground. :faint: :scared: :crazy2:

I consider ANY flight that I have lived through to be a "good flight". :sunny:

Everything else is minor.... :flower:

Thanks for the reassurance! Now I know that it is at least possible that I will someday have a smooth takeoff from MCO!! :goodvibes

What do you dislike most about flying?

My arms get tired.

sorry...lame attempt at humor. :)

I read your post about BWI and MCO...and that is the same airports we use and always on Southwest, I had to laugh...I agree, it always seems bumpy and bouncy, and we make that trip 3 times a year to WDW. I guess it doesn't bug me because my husband is an Aerospace Engineer and designs commercial aircraft engines for a living so I know more details than I need to...with knowledge comes comfort. I've also gotten to see them test the engines by throwing sand, rocks, dead chickens, ice, dirt, etc. into the engines to make sure they'll hold up. You're safe. PM me if you have any questions.

SeaSpray, I agree with you! This is the only thing that bothers me about flying!

Children, excess bags, people who "don't have a clue", etc. don't bother me as much as the people who have hissy fits over these things. I've been whacked in the head by someone coming down the aisle, and that person has always apologized. If they didn't, I suspect it was because they didn't realize what happened. I don't get all bent out of shape over it.

People who can't manage their own luggage and expect someone to help them.

Yes, those EVIL people who need help! How dare they expect help and kindness from strangers!

Ducklite, I hope I'm not on any of your flights, with all that smoke coming out of your ears :rotfl: !

I like flying. I dont like people who kick your seat or people who have 'break wind' excessively in the seats near me. :sad2: :crazy2: I dont like the thought of airport security rummaging through my underwear either.

I love flying. I especially love going to the airport. I love wandering the concourses and watching the planes come and go. The feeling of takeoff and landing is interesting, but I do feel safe. You have to tell yourself, when is the last time a plane crashed in the US? My particular carrier has never had a crash....... that is pretty relaxing... now think of how many car accidents you hear about on the news every day!

People who infringe on my space can be annoying. Those same people are annoying at the movie theatre, grocery store, etc... and their kids who don't know when to shut up and sit down are overly annoying. The moral is teach your kids to be respectful and they will be great on an airplane.

Heck, we are going on vacation..... relax and enjoy the flight. Have fun!
