What do you carry in your DLR backpack?

Talk to me about these. I ordered 2 Totes UV umbrellas and they look exactly like every other umbrella I own. Are yours the solar ones with the reflective fabric?

What makes them different?! It is a mystery.

I bought 2 of these from Amazon. They're silver on the top part of the umbrella (i.e., with the reflective fabric) and blue underneath, with this one part all the way around the umbrella for air ventilation. But we also used them as rain umbrellas and they performed really well for that, too, and didn't leak or anything.

It felt a good 10 degrees cooler standing under one of these umbrellas. Our first couple of days at WDW, we didn't need to use them. My DH was even teasing me a bit with silly stuff like "You're not actually going to use one of those dumb silver umbrellas, are you? You do know, don't you, how stupid you'll look walking around with an umbrella in the sun?" I told him, "Go to Disneyland Tokyo or Shanghai Disneyland. People there use umbrellas for shade all the time. Just you wait, you'll be asking to use one later in the week."

And that's exactly what happened. On our 2nd day at HS and our 2nd day at MK, it was hotter than earlier that week and my DH used one of the umbrellas on both of those days. When he combined it with a neck fan, he said it was "a lot more tolerable and not nearly as miserable." LOL.

That's going to be my same exact setup. Already got the UV umbrella's and the neck fan I ordered from Amazon arrives this weekend. I ordered this one mostly due to reviews and the long lasting battery.

Why is
Minimalist here too but sometimes DH carries backpack for the family and here is what we carry.

In my pockets (I only bring my pants, skirts or shorts that have lots of pockets) -- we are a family of 4 (2 teen boys, DH and me, a middle aged woman)
  • phone
  • small phone charger and small cord
  • lipgloss
  • credit/giftcards/hotel key in plastic size ziplock that I can also put my phone in on Splash/Rapids
  • hair tie
  • contacts case w/solution inside
I wear wicking clothes and shoes that are quick drying--kind of meshy but have arch support. I tie jacket around my waist and sunglasses on my face which will go in my pockets or when sun goes down.

In backpack:
  • sweatshirts and/or light jackets. I'll throw a pair of pants for me that I can slip on in evening because I get cold
  • sunscreen stick for touchups
  • phone charger and cord
  • sometimes flip flops for the kids for the water rides but if they don't want to use them, we just have them take off/stash their socks (and sometimes underwear ha ha) before the rides as those are what takes forever to dry
  • empty water bladder (platypus) / bottle that we fill up. Though usually we end up buying a coke, rinsing the bottle out and using water
  • extra ziplock bag for phones on water rides.
We used to bring a lot more but found that it just got heavy and we didn't use half of it. I try to avoid going through the bag check line if I can help it so I make hard decisions if something doesn't fit in my pockets.
Why are you putting your phone in a ziplock? If it’s a relatively new phone, it should be water resistant. If you have an iPhone, anything newer than an iPhone 6S is IP67 rated.

I have historically carried a dry bag, but even my mirrorless SLR (Z6) is weather sealed. I would have to drop my backpack in the GRR stream to have any meaningful impact. I think I can leave the dry bag home from now on. You may want to put your charging brick in a bag though. I'm not sure how those would react to getting the USB ports wet.

Some of us have anxiety about a lot of things. If putting my phone in a ziplock let’s me enjoy splash more... that’s what I’ll do. I’m not one for testing warranties, either.

You do you! 🌈
