My grandma and I have always been really close. She never hesitates to bring me somewhere if I need a ride or do something for me. Lately she has been saying that we don't spend a lot of time together anymore. She has never really traveled. She drove to Florida once years ago to visit family, but that was before WDW was built. LOL. But other than that, she doesn't travel, mainly because her husband doesn't like to travel. The furthest he will go is about 2 hours away to visit his mom (shes 104 years old). Anyways, my family travels to Disney a lot and we have been trying to convince her to come with us. She had the excuse of her dog (the dog was really old and needed pretty constant care), but now that the dog died, she can't use that one. I honestly think she would love WDW if she went, but she says she has no interest in it. She says its "dumb and for little kids. What does she want with a place with a bunch of dumb characters running around" Yes, those are her exact words. Well, I just started working. I have been thinking about taking my grandma on a trip to WDW, just me and her. This won't be for a while, at least a year, probably more like 2, from now. What do yall think? Should I just take her to WDW? Or should I take her on a cruise (everytime I bring up going to WDW, she says that she would like to do a cruise)? Or should I just forget the whole vacation idea and do something else (maybe just take her to lunch or something)? I wanted to do something bigger than just going to lunch, but I really don't want to waste so much money if she wouldn't enjoy it. Just wanted to get your opinions before I say anything to my parents or grandmother about it. I would have to buy the trip and tickets and everything before I tell her that I am taking her somewhere or else she would never agree to go and let me pay for it.

I bet the cruise would be a better choice- maybe even the Disney cruise that way she can see it is not just for kids and depending on her age- you didn't mention it- she won't have all the walking. I bet she would come away with a new appreciation for Disney. It's all about the Magic!

I know you want to do something bigger, and you can save for a cruise (if that's her preference) but you should find some things to do right now. When she says she wants to spend more time with you, she means right NOW, not 2 years from now! ;)

Take her out for breakfast or lunch or shopping.... and show her pics from WDW so maybe she'll change her mind and you guys can go there in a few years! :)

I agree- You two could save up money to go on a cruise- if that's what you wanted to do. We just got off the Disney Wonder ealier this month, and had a blast!

Anyway- this is just backing up dizneygirls's idea- for now you could go to lunch, shop, and just spend time together. You don't even have to go anywhere- bonding time anywhere is wonderful! :)

What a wonderful granddaughter you are! :cheer2:

If she doesn't have a good idea about what WDW is really like, how about buying her a book about it, like Birnbaum's or something. I had the same attitude about WDW as she did until I started reading about it, then I was hooked!

If she still isn't too impressed, then a cruise sounds like a wonderful idea.

I think you should also set up a weekly "date" with her. Maybe Saturday morning breakfast at a local cafe or something. That would be a great way to spend some quality time together.

Thanks for your opinions! The Disney cruise is a good idea, but it is too expensive. I forgot to mention this, but I am only in high school (thats why I said 2 years from now because that would be when I graduate) and my job is only part time working 3 days a week. I have showed her pictures of Disney, before (pictures that people from the DIS took), but she has that mentality that she doesn't like it and never will. The guide book is a good idea, but she won't touch it. LOL. I gave her a book to read (Marley and Me by John Grogan. It was a really good book and I thought she would enjoy it since her dog just died). She picked up the book, didn't even finish the first chapter, and told me "I don't like this book, I thought it was about a dog the guy had when he was a kid, but its not. What do I wanna read about a married couple for?" I told her to keep reading so a couple days later, she opens to a random page about 3/4 of the way through through the book and reads it then tells me "I don't like htis book, the dog died. What do I wanna read about a dead dog for? Thats too sad" And she hasn't touched it since. Maybe I'll try bringing her my Birnbaum's anyways, though. I'll look into a cruise. Maybe I'll have my mom book it as she is really good at getting deals at hotels. She rarely pays more than 80$ a night for hotels if she pays anything at all.

Although WDW would be fun, who says that you have to go there? It would be a very neat experience for her, but if she refuses, then you could always go somewhere else for a vacation. Hope it all works out for you! :)
