What's the deal with this promotion ?? We are going in October...
Do we just tell them we are celebrating something ?? Does WDW do something special ??
It seems you can celebrate anything
ANY stories and feedback on this would be great !!

The only thing I've heard of related to this theme is that while you are at the Magic Kingdom if you have your picture taken by a photopass photographer it "MIGHT" get put in a slide show of pictures they display nightly of memories made at Disney.

I just noticed this board name changed today, when did that happen?

Many expect announcements about 2012 promo to be made at D23 tomorrow so maybe we will know soon. The current 2011 promo you really don't "get" anything different from 2010. The buttons to celebrate are still given out all over and you can add celebrations to dining reservations and such and sometimes you get a special card or a cupcake but it doesn't happen all the time. It's just part of the pixie dust.

Now if we could just get people to quit posting free dining and discount questions on this forum and put them where they actually belong we would be golden. :)

So you can tell them you're celebrating some special occasion, but big whoop, huh??
Hmmmmmm, seems they need to spruce that up a bit, but kind of too late for this year.

Actually, the majority of Disney's past promotional themes were just that...themes to set the tone for park events for that particular year, i.e. Remember The Magic to mark the MK's 25th anniversary; Celebrate the Future Hand in Hand to mark the millenium in 2000; 100 Years of Magic to mark Walt Disney's 100th birthday.

It's only in the past few years, with Year of a Million Dreams, What Will You Celebrate and Give A Day, Get A Disney Day that the promotions included giveaways and prizes for the guests.

While there isn't a big promotion this year, you can always note what you're celebrating on your room reservation and your ADRs. Last year, DH and I were there for my 50th birthday, and I received free desserts at just about every table service meal, a card signed by the characters at Crystal Palace, a personalized birthday menu at Flying Fish, a free glass of champagne at Le Cellier, and cheesecake, chocolate-covered strawberries and balloons in our room at the Swan. I was just happy to be at my favorite place on earth, but all the little extras made it even more memorable.

PS - DH and I are also celebrating our 20th on our October trip. Happy Anniversary!

Oh...and don't forget to get the anniversary buttons!

You are correct, just being at Disney World is Wonderful and Magical:tinker::tink:

We went in August and my DS Cade had a "Happy Birthday, Cade" button. Two of our pictures ended up in the slide show on the castle that night. Pretty exciting for Cade (OK, and me, too!) One was us on Splash Mountain, and one was the Photopass picture taken of Cade with Goofy dressed as a pirate.

"Let the Memories Begin" is all about Disney pushing Photo Pass, nothing more. "One More Day" is rumored for 2012...a repeat of 2010's "Give a Day, Get a Day".

Bummer, why do they ask us what we are celebrating when we made our ressies?
Well, being at WDW is still a ka-zillion times better then sitting at home, doing housework, cooking & making lunches, going to work, taking kids to school and dance classes, blah blah blah.....

SO...YAYYYYYYY DISNEY WORLD !!

I secretly though really love getting a little perk or extra special surprises.....maybe

We got the photo album code this year and I think its awesome!

We used our photopass card around the park, came home and all the photos are available online. You then 'create an album' which has so many different designs and stuff and add your photos and text to it ... you can even upload your own photos and add them. You create a beautiful looking album, all online and then at check out, enter your code (album normally costs $80) and then in the mail you receive your beautiful album full of your memories :)

Oh cool, how did you get the free album code? Did it come by email? My family pre-paid for the CD, I'm hoping we will get a code for a free album, too!

When we booked in August all bookings came under the "Memories Package" which I paid no attention to, just thought it was what Disney called their full resort/tickets etc package ... it wasn't until I got our itinery through the mail and saw in the book of coupons one for a photo pass and upon digging deeper, found out what it was.

I'm working on ours now and it is looking fab! I am so excited. You get 20 pages, if you go over it is $3.50 per double page which I think is very reasonable. You can fit as many photos on a page as you like but I think 3 is comfortable otherwise they become too small.

The album with the Memories package was not free. It was a required addition to the package for a cost of $90.90. There was no option to opt out of getting it.

TayjaDanger, you will not get a code for a free book, but you might be able to contact Photopass and see if they will allow you to do the preorder for the cd/book at $149 instead of just the $99 cd preorder. I'd say it's a long shot, though.

Who Knows What EVIL Lurks In The Heart Of Disney Marketing?!

When Disney feels ready to implement their next promotion they will do so. If other recent promotions have been any indication, for about the first month nobody will really understand it and the Marketing people will not have thought out all the ramifications.

Thats what someone else told me so I called up to find out and the Disney CM told me that I did not pay for it - also I did not notice any price difference as I worked out my prices for two rooms earlier in the year prior to the memories package - surely I would have noticed a $180 difference?

Even at $90 I think it is good value to have as many professional photos as you can fit (and its ALOT) in a beautifully bound album.

However, I have seen several people say they paid for theirs so I called Photopass after I last posted to clarify again as I was starting to doubt my own memory.

Yes, mine was free I was not charged for it and a broken down bill can be sent to show this so I then ask why others paid - I was told I would have to speak to someone in marketing to get the finer details but in a nutshell, some lucky ones got it free :confused3

I then dug out the reservations booklet they sent me with all the other vouchers and stuff in and its say Memories 20 page Photo Album Coupon, No Purchase necessary, one-time free promotion. Any extra pages will incur a charge blah, blah, blah.

Leaving this Thursday and so much to think about & do ! Sooooooo very excited, yet overwhelmed at the moment
